The writing has been on the wall for quite a while for the PlayStation Vita. With the production of physical titles due to end at the end of fiscal year 2018, and February being the final month for PlayStation Plus games on the platform, it was only going to be a matter of time before the system was sunsetted. Well, Sony Japan has confirmed just that. According to the official Japanese PlayStation website, shipments of the two available models are "scheduled to end soon".
The two remaining models currently available are the PCH-2000 ZA11 (PS Vita Black) and the PCH-2000 ZA23 (PS Vita Aqua Blue), both of which carry the message that “shipments are scheduled to end soon”. While we can't be certain exactly when soon will be, when the same message was displayed for the PlayStation 3 models in March 2017, production ceased just two months later in May 2017. It's fair to assume this means production could finish as early as the end of the financial year. Sony had already previously confirmed that they'd be ending Vita production in 2019 in Japan.
Sony is yet to confirm whether production of the Vita will end in other regions, but it's likely a safe bet that it will. We'll be sure to let you know as soon as we know more.
