Report: Free To Play Battle Royale Set in Titanfall Universe Coming on Monday

By Mark Delaney,
Multiple people, including Kotaku's reliable Jason Schreier, have today reported that Respawn and EA will be announcing and releasing a free to play battle royale set in the Titanfall universe this Monday, February 4th. The game will be titled Apex Legends and reportedly will focus on just the soldiers of the game's story world and will not feature playable Titans.

The news first broke when an esports consultant, Rod Breslau, stated multiple people had shared the news with him.

Jason Schreier then corroborated the news, joking that one way to ensure your game is leaked is to let influencers try it out before the reveal.

The game is reported to mix in elements of a hero shooter, including classes of characters each with unique abilities. At launch, a match will top off at 60 people with modes for solo, duo, and trio play. Paid cosmetics will be a part of the game's economy. While the launch date of February 4th seems to be agreed upon by those with sources close to the matter, some are speculating that the reveal may actually come in an expensive Super Bowl ad spot tomorrow, February 3rd.

It was previously known that Respawn would be releasing multiple games in 2019, with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order understood to be one of them, likely due this holiday season. With reliable reporting from multiple fronts, it seems Apex Legends will be the other game coming from the studio, and it's coming very soon. We'll update this story as needed. Stay tuned.
