What Games Are You Looking Forward To in 2019?

By Sam Quirke,
2019 is already shaping up to be an interesting year for games. Of course there are plenty of rumours — from long-awaited PS4 exclusives to a brand new console reveal — but for now, we're interested in the games that we already know are on the way in the coming year. Which games are you going to keep an eye on?

January

2.8screen2

As always January's selection of games is relatively thin at the time of writing, but it's not entirely empty. We have Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition in just a couple of weeks and ACE COMBAT 7: Skies Unknown the following Friday. The two biggest hitters for the month are surely the long-awaited KINGDOM HEARTS III and the return of — though some may be interested in the controversially delayed Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal as well.

February

Anthem

Somehow February 2019 has become the place to be if you didn't want to release alongside Red Dead Redemption 2. In this bumper month we will see Metro Exodus (PS4), DEAD OR ALIVE 6, Jump Force and Far Cry New Dawn arrive on the same day, and that's not even including Crackdown 3 over on the Xbox. The following week sees the release of Bioware's post-Mass Effect gamble, Anthem. The definitive Steins;Gate Elite arrives on PlayStation 4 in the same week, and DiRT Rally 2.0 is coming at the end of the month. Luckily most of this kicks off the day after Valentine's Day...

March

Sekiro

The next month isn't exactly quiet, either. Bizarre Sega mascots return in ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove, followed by the intriguing LEFT ALIVE, set in the Front Mission universe and featuring a similar artwork aesthetic to Metal Gear Solid. The next three weeks see the arrival of some highly anticipated new entries from renowned studios: Devil May Cry 5, Tom Clancy's The Division 2 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

April — June

RAGE 2

Naturally the known release dates get hazy for the rest of the year — but we do know to expect both Days Gone and Mortal Kombat 11 (PS4) in April. By mid-May we will be able to get our hands on id and Avalanche collaboration RAGE 2 and the delayed Team Sonic Racing. Speaking of throwback platforming heroes taking the wheel, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is on the way in June.

The Rest of 2019

August Trailer 1

What else do we know? Well in a year littered with long-awaited sequels, perhaps the longest wait for fans has been Shenmue III, which is supposed to land in August. The unusual action-RPG Biomutant should be making itself known in the fall, and Respawn's is supposed to be out at some point in Q4.

A lot of unknowns...

The Last of Us Part II E3 Screens

Of course, that leaves us with a lot of games that we hope arrive in 2019, but there have been no announcements as of yet. Some have had 2019 waved about vaguely, others have had no release news at all. Expect a lot of these to make an appearance at E3 — unless of course they are a PlayStation exclusive, as Sony will not be attending the expo in any capacity this year...

Of course, there's also Cyberpunk 2077 — but we know that's not coming in 2019... don't we?

Let us know what you're looking forward to, TT'ers!
