Dead by Daylight's Next Chapter Hunts The Darkness Among Us

By Rebecca Smith,
Not only were there plenty of new titles revealed at The Game Awards, several other developers took to the stage to reveal new content for their existing games. Behaviour Interactive was one of those, and they revealed the next DLC chapter coming up for Dead by Daylight 1/2 (PS4). "Darkness Among Us" will come with a new map, a new Survivor, and a new Killer.

Darkness Among Us

Ormond, Alberta, is a small ski town with a population of just under 7,000. As well as the ski slopes, the town was supported by a strong coal mining industry that left scars all over the landscape. The project was halted over environmental concerns when they wanted to blow up the mountain top to extract the coal. To make things worse, a new resort with luxurious hotels was built just two hours away in Richmond, and now the ski resort lays abandoned. The Mount Ormond Resort is the location for the new map, as well as groups of teenagers looking for trouble.

Ormond is also a town with a shady past. Three teenagers became acquainted with an "impulsive mastermind", Frank, who persuaded them to form a group known as The Legion. They became lawless and spiralled out of control, even going so far as to become the new Killers in the game. Their power is Feral Frenzy, a power drawn from the freedom of not abiding any rules other than their own. The power puts them into a rage that allows them to sprint and vault over pallets, although it also dulls their senses. Hitting a survivor in this state causes them to bleed out (unless they heal their deep wounds), as well as replenishing The Legion's power gauge and giving them the Killer Instinct to locate other Survivors. The Legion also has three new perks:

Discordance
Any time 2 or more Survivors are working on the same Generator, the Generator's aura is highlighted in white for a limited time.

Mad Grit
While carrying a Survivor, you suffer no cooldown for missed attacks and hitting another Survivor pauses the carried Survivor's wiggle timer.

Iron Maiden
You open lockers faster. When a Survivor exits a locker, they emit a loud noise and suffer from the Exposed status effect for a limited time.

Jeff Johansen is the new Survivor, and he comes with an exclusive In the Shadow of Death shirt. He grew up in Ormond before his parents' divorce led to him relocating to Winkler, Manitoba, with his mother. Now an artist who designs tattoos and band artwork, as well as brewing his own beer. After receiving a call that his father has died, he returns to Ormond to sort out his father's affairs. He also comes with three new Perks:

Breakdown
Any time you are removed from a hook (escaped or saved), the hook breaks and the Killer's aura is shown to you for a limited time.

Aftercare
A 2-way link is created between youself and survivors that:
  • You rescue from a hook, or who rescue you from a hook.
  • You complete a healing action on, or who complete a healing action on you.
You can create a limited amount of links with other Survivors. Existing links will not be replaced until they are removed. If you are hooked by the Killer, all your existing links with other Survivors are removed.

Distortion
You start the Trial with 3 tokens. When your aura would be shown to the killer, the perk activates and a token is consumed. For a limited time, while the perk is activated, your aura will not be shown to the Killer.

As well as the new content, the game will be getting dedicated servers in an attempt to improve the title's online performance. Not only will online connectivity no longer be reliant on a game host, the developer is promising a safer online environment and will also be offering "more customizable options", such as "punishing people who disconnect from a ranked game". The team is aiming to implement these servers on all platforms by the end of summer 2019.

The new "Darkness Among Us" content doesn't yet have a release date, but we'll be sure to let you know as soon as we get it.
