After E3 2018 came and went without any word from developer NetherRealm Studios, many thought that any hope for a new Mortal Kombat was premature. However, when series creator Ed Boon rocked up to The Game Awards 2018, he surprised everyone with an exclusive reveal for Mortal Kombat 11. The next entry into the visceral, gore-ridden fighting franchise also has a release date, and is due to launch April 23rd, 2019.
With the trailer showcasing some familiar faces, other details have also become apparent. Firstly, Mortal Kombat 11 will introduce an all new custom character variation system, giving players the ability to customize their fighters and make them their own. The game will also be engineered through a new graphics engine, showcasing every gory detail and brutal moment as spectacularly as possible to bring gamers closer to the fight. Finally, NetherRealm Studios has promised a roster of "new and returning Klassic Fighters", with those who pre-order also getting exclusive access to Shao Khan.
Although platforms were not confirmed, it would come as a great surprise to not see Mortal Kombat 11 on the PlayStation 4, with the developer's recent releases all being multi-platform. Are you excited to return to the Mortal Kombat universe? Let us know in the comments.
