The PlayStation Classic released this week, but for many the final line-up of 20 games on the mini console was a little disappointing. Several more titles have now been found referenced in the machine's alleged source code posted on GitHub. This has led to some confusion on social media as many have assumed that this means the games are "hidden" in the machine, but these are simply reference points likely used during testing. Nevertheless, it's an unfortunate blunder to leave those references in for social media to explode over. It's also a wistful glance at what could have been if issues like licensing didn't severely cripple the available options for Sony's little console.
The references include:
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Medal of Honor
PaRappa the Rapper
Tomb Raider II
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Notably, many of these titles would have been nigh-on impossible to use in the final product due to licensing — Harry Potter and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 being two of the bigger red flags. It's also worth pointing out that the GitHub post has not been verified, though it certainly looks legitimate enough. In either case, it's another opportunity to wonder what could have been — and perhaps dig out the original console itself over the holidays...
