It looks like Sony have stealth-released a revised edition of the PS4 Pro inside the current Red Dead Redemption 2
bundle. Digital Foundry
have tested out the new kit and found it to be demonstrably quieter.
The Red Dead
bundle comes with the CUH-7200 series, an upgrade from the CUH-7100 that first appeared with the 500 Million Limited Edition console. While the 7100 made improvements to the machine's performance, Digital Foundry allege that the changes led to a hotter console despite an improved "acoustic performance". Taking the notoriously console-straining God of War
as a test case, Digital Foundry discovered that the 7200 makes even more improvements in terms of the jet-engine cacophony that many Pro owners have been dealing with when playing the year's most intensive games — equivalent to another couple of decibels and hopefully bringing the console's noisiness down to a level that makes it acceptable for any living room.
Rumours suggest that the Pro may be getting a price drop in the coming weeks, and with Black Friday coming up many will be tempted to pick up the beefier version of the PlayStation 4. Make sure to check out the series number on the box or description before purchase; at the moment only the Red Dead
bundle is carrying the 7200.
