UPDATE: Harry Potter Open World RPG Leaked in Focus Test Video

By Sam Quirke,
UPDATE: It looks like the original video has been taken down by Warner Bros. Interactive, which pretty much confirms the existence of the title:

This video contains content from Warner Bros. Entertainment Interactive, who has blocked it on copyright grounds.
There is another version of the video here. Meanwhile, Eurogamer have reached out to anonymous sources and claim that they have confirmed the existence of the game and that it's "at least a year away from launch". Their sources close to Rocksteady have confirmed that the Arkham studio are not involved.

Following Eurogamer's story, BBC reporter Lizo Mzimba reported some working titles in a tweet:

Thanks to Tiawyn for spotting the updates and once again to Gematsu for rounding everything up.

Original Story:

Someone may be working on a full-scale RPG set in Harry Potter's Wizarding World, if a Reddit post containing a leaked video is to be believed. The video below shows magic combat, character customisation, lessons at Hogwarts and more, and features creatures from both the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises... as well as a stirring alternative version of John Williams' iconic Harry Potter theme music.

The video and a basic description were leaked on Reddit by VapeThisBro who claims to have attended a focus test in an undisclosed mall. According to the Redditor, there were signs declaring that no footage could be recorded and there was an NDA to sign, but this individual was neither checked for recording equipment nor made to sign the NDA. Obviously this is all a little sketchy, but if it's a hoax then it's quite a believable one. Here's the description as transcribed by VapeThisBro:

Seeing as J.K. Rowling is keen to expand the Potterverse in new directions and normally picks an entirely new time period and character set for new adventures, it certainly seems credible that a full RPG would be set in an entirely new era. As for the studio behind it, we do know that Warner Bros. Games Inc (whose parent company look after Wizarding World movies and entertainment) sought senior writers with a "deep understanding of British culture" for a "AAA RPG" back in 2017, as spotted by GameZone. Even back then rumours swirled about a Harry Potter related game, and it adds a certain solidity to this new rumour. Of course, it's also a solid foundation for an extremely elaborate hoax...

We'll provide an update if we receive any verification on this story. Credit to Gematsu for pulling the various strands of this rumour together.
