Wield a First Civilization Spear in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

The next developer diary for Assassin's Creed Odyssey highlights the similarities and changes from Origins in the combat.

As explained in the video, your character is Spartan-born but left at an early age, meaning that your combat style has evolved beyond the traditional phalanx to a more survivalist melting pot of options. This is reflected in the 30 abilities that you will be able to progress through in the skill tree.

The basic fighting is similar to Origins, but the developers promise more mobility and, apparently, a more substantial parrying ability. Most significantly and for the first time in the series, your character will be wielding a First Civilisation spear which provides a unique otherworldly boost to combat. Once your adrenaline gauge fills, the spear's power will activate and you can channel this into a variety of different options; not just melee but also in ranged combat with your bow.

The next episode of Behind the Odyssey, due out within the next week, will apparently feature naval gameplay. You can check out the episode about player choice here.
