Critically Acclaimed Survival Game Subnautica Headed to PlayStation 4

By Sam Quirke,
There's a whole bunch of games floating around in the "survival" genre these days, so you'd be forgiven for overlooking Subnautica. Its major twist on the genre is the fact that it all takes place underwater on an alien planet, but despite a simple premise the game has been getting a lot positive reviews in both its Steam and Xbox Preview incarnations — sitting at 87 on Metacritic at the time of writing.

PlayStation players can finally find out what the fuss is all about, as a port has been announced by developers Unknown Worlds and their console porting partners Panic Button.

It's the 22nd century, and humans have gone off to colonise distant worlds in their usual fashion. Your mission was to make contact with a crashed ship on a oceanic planet, but a strange pulse sends you crashing into the waters. Now the task is to survive and find a way back home. You will craft, explore, scavenge and build bases in your quest to break free of the planet's grip.

The game will be available physically and digitally, and Panic Button have left a cryptic hint on the PlayStation Blog that PlayStation players will get "something special" for the release of the console version.

Subnautica is expected to release on PlayStation 4 "by the end of the year".
