Worlds Collide in Fortnite Season 5

By Rebecca Smith, 5 months ago
At the end of last month, players gathered in Fortnite to watch as a once in a lifetime event occurred. Evil Lair's rocket was launched into the sky, and in the minutes that followed the launch, a mysterious and rather large crack appeared in the sky. In the days that followed, rifts began appearing in the map, more cracks appeared in the sky, and objects disappeared from the map, such as signs and landmarks. All of this led to the beginning of Season 5 today, and as expected, developer Epic Games has made several changes to the map (and added a new vehicle) to accompany the launch of the new Battle Pass. Save The World players aren't left out, though, as they get a returning game mode, new heroes and a new weapon set.

So what's changed on the Battle Royale map? Well, players can now interact with the rifts. Entering one will cause players to be teleported to another part of the map. Also, players will now find a viking ship and ancient statues across the island. Moisty Mire has been hit with a drought and has been turned into a new biome: a desert outpost called Paradise Palms. There are new locations and new unnamed points of interest. You can see the updated minimap below:

Battle Royale also gets a new four-player vehicle, the All Terrain Kart (ATK), amongst many other changes and gameplay improvements. The full patch notes for this part of the game can be found in the spoiler.

Of course, the start of a new season means the start of a new Battle Pass. Battle Pass Season 5 features 100 levels and over 100 new rewards. Players can purchase the pass for 950 V-Bucks. The first trailer gives a brief overview of some of the new content and challenges facing players, while the second gives a very brief but more detailed overview of what the pass entails.
