New game Axiom Verge has gotten an announcement trailer that should elicit squeals of joy from long time gamers. Watch the trailer below and count how many games come to mind by the end.

Axiom Verge is an upcoming game by Thomas Happ Games that is clearly inspired by some of the greatest games of the late 80's such as Rygar, Blaster Master, Bionic Commando, Contra, and Metroid. It's an unabashed homage to every aspect of the 2D, side scrolling, Metroidvania style shoot 'em ups right down to the big alien creatures and the glitches; so much is this the case that "glitching" is a game mechanic and another tool in your arsenal.

Get ready for Axiom Verge to glitch its way into your heart early next year on PS4 and Vita.
