We knew that Metroidvania roguelite title Dead Cells was coming to consoles this year, and our very own News Manager Rebecca Smith also put together a list of the top five games you shouldn't miss from EGX Rezzed 2018, with Dead Cells claiming the number one spot. A gameplay trailer has been released revealing a release window for the title, but sadly, we've seen the exact same gameplay before back in January this year.

New details have emerged from the video's description, however, with a deeper insight as to what the game's about. Players will take on the role of a failed alchemic experiment as you try to work out what's going on in the sprawling, always-changing, and what appears to be cursed Island. The combat aims to be difficult but fair with responsive controls, challenging enemies, and most importantly, permadeath. To make life just a little easier, players will be able to use their emergency panic roll to help avoid life-ending hits from the enemy.

The permadeath feature will be sure to keep your adrenaline flowing as you explore the interconnected world full of branching paths and unlockable skills. With no checkpoints, you're going to need to make it to the end of the game in one go. Thankfully, you'll keep some progress from successive runs, such as new paths you've managed to find, access to new levels, mutations, abilities and weapons.

Regarding the weaponry, there will be plenty of ways to take out your enemies, With swords, bows, spells, grenades, whips, and turrets, there's a whole set of unique ways to slay your enemies. On top of that, you'll be able to build and customize your character differently on each run.

The game looks to be pretty brutal and frustrating, but ultimately, it will be your skills that matter the most. Once you've mastered and sharpened your skills enough, the game will become super-easy for you. Of course, it's just having the patience and persistence to get to this stage.

Dead Cells is looking to release on the PlayStation 4 in August 2018.
