There has never been a question if an updated Spyro The Dragon
trilogy was coming out. That much has been known. The question has always been, "When are we going to get that?" Publisher Activision says soon: Spyro Reignited Trilogy
is coming to PlayStation 4 later this year.
The trilogy being reignited is, of course, made up of Spyro The Dragon
, Spyro: Ripto's Rage
and Spyro: Year of the Dragon
. Between the three, that's more than 100 levels of what Activision promises will be "HD graphical glory." Players can expect "improved environments, updated controls, brand-new lighting and recreated cinematics for added flavor in this one-of-a-kind adventure."
The trilogy is being worked on by none other than Toys for Bob, who worked on the Skylanders series
. The choice is rather fitting since Skylanders
was essentially branded around Spyro
, although Toys for Bob did not make the first game, Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure
Toys for Bob Design Director Toby Schadt says that "20 years is a long time, but as we’ve seen around the gaming community, it’s not long enough to dampen the intense passion that fans have for this series of games." The development team themselves are passionate about preserving the legacy of the classic series.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
launches for PlayStation 4 on September 21st.
