Spider-Man Swings Into Action on September 7th

My Spider-sense is tingling, which must mean that further news of Insomniac's hotly anticipated Spider-Man has arrived. Thanks to an update from Insomniac we finally have solid release date information, as Spidey web-slings into action this September. Here's the official box art too:

The standard edition of the game will be priced at US $59.99 / CDN $79.99, though further regional pricing has yet to be confirmed. Of course, it wouldn't be a AAA video game release without some special editions, which in this case includes a physical Collector's Edition (US $149.99 / CDN $199.99) and a Digital Deluxe edition (US $79.99 / CDN $99.99 MSRP).

The Digital Deluxe edition featured above will include new story chapters with the game's post-launch DLC series titled "The City That Never Sleeps". This DLC will apparently consist of three new chapters, new villains and of course, new Spidey suits. We'll have to wait on further DLC details "down the road", but Insomniac also announced that players who pre-order the Digital Deluxe version will also get a shiny Spidey pin if they are a US or Canadian resident. Neat!

How about that pricey Collector's Edition though? Well, along with all of the Digital Deluxe content you'll also receive a shiny Steelbook, an art book and a Spider-Man statue. Looking at the image above though, that's not the whole story — what is Spider-Man crouching on? Insomniac aren't willing to reveal that just yet, mysteriously hinting that an explanation is coming in Summer 2018. Perhaps a crucial story element or as-yet-unrevealed villain is sitting in there? Or maybe it's just full of candy? It'll be exciting either way.

As the video above explains, all pre-orders entitle you to a little package of extra content, whether you're slumming it with the standard release or going big with the Collector's edition. This includes a Spidey Suit pack — two of which are also mysteriously unrevealed — an in-game Spider-Drone gadget, some skill points, a PSN avatar and a PS4 theme designed by comic book artist Adi Granov.

Spider-Man is due for release on September 7th.
