SMITE's Time to Party Patch Coming Soon to Consoles

By Kelly Packard, 6 months ago
SMITE console is ready for the next round of patch releases. Tuesday is the usual patch day, but as players have surely noticed, the 5.5 patch didn't arrive. Developer Hi-Rez Studios has said they are "taking some extra time to make sure the update is the best experience possible." Instead, PlayStation 4 players will receive the patch later this week. The highlights include another birthday bundle, the testing of new matchmaking and more.

For a quick rundown of what's included in the patch, check out the video above. Of course, the full patch notes are always available on the official SMITE website for those who prefer a more in-depth look at what's new.

There are new quality of life features, which tie back to last year's Project Olympus. Project Olympus was an initiative that Hi-Rez began to tighten up aspects of SMITE that were lacking. In patch 5.5, players will notice a slew of new level-up bonuses, changes to the custom build feature, more console VGS improvements, and more. In patch 5.5, Hi-Rez will begin testing improvements to the matchmaker. The matchmaking changes won't be too noticeable at first and will be restricted to different modes, but as testing continues, players will hopefully see big improvements.

The next round of the three-part SMITE birthday event will arrive with patch 5.5. The bundle includes the Elegant Nemesis and Itty Bitty ChiBee Ah Muzen Cab skins plus extra birthday-themed cosmetics. The bundle will be on sale for 675 gems during patch 5.5 and will go up to its regular price of 900 gems after. Other skin additions include Orbital Strike Artemis, Sky Tech Zeus and Dark Matter Khepri, which are all exclusive.

Patch 5.5 is also a big one for mastery skins. Achilles will receive his mastery skins, and Nemesis and Ah Muzen Cab have had theirs updated.

As far as balance goes, players can expect new Malice passive and Silverbranch Bow passives, and Midgardian Mail, Witchblade, Ichiaval, Asi, Spiked Gauntlet (builds into Devo's/Bloodforge), and 8-Pointed Shuriken (builds into Wind Demon/Poison Star) buffs. God changes include Aphrodite, Isis, Sun Wukong, Vulcan, and Erlang Shen buffs. Sobek, Ao Kuang, Da Ji, Cu Chulainn, and Discordia have been nerfed.

The patch launches for PlayStation 4 "later this week".
