Necromunda: Underhive Wars Announced for PlayStation 4

After finding success with 2016's Mordheim: City of the Damned, developer Rogue Factor has teamed up with Focus Home Interactive once more to take on another Game Workshop franchise. Necromunda: Underhive Wars will take the developer's trademark strategy influence and combine it with RPG elements when the tabletop game is reincarnated in digital form on PlayStation 4.

The game is set on the planet of Necromunda. The planet is covered in poisonous ash, so its inhabitants have to live in vast man-made structures built to withstand the conditions. Although they keep their residents safe, the main purpose of these Hive Cities is to provide to the Imperium. The most notable of the cities is Hive Primus. Here, the rich and noble live above the clouds and toxic conditions in a construction known as the Tower. Meanwhile, the poor live in a subterranean metropolis known as the Underhive, and it is here where criminal gangs wage war in a bid for control of the territory.

Players will choose a gang and test their mettle in fast-paced turn-based tactical combat against rival gangs in battles that take place in large vertical environments. Anarchy, violence and death must be embraced regardless of who you choose. The battlefields' verticality will allow players to push for the high ground, set traps or prepare the perfect ambush. Only two gangs have been revealed so far, although more will be revealed "in the coming months". There's the Eschers, an all-female gang known for pushing drugs and other chemicals throughout the Underhive. Alternatively, the Goliaths aim for the perfect physical build and are not impartial to using steroids or other strength-enhancing drugs to gain the upper hand.

Players can choose the best gang members to suit their playstyle. Every fighter has a customisable loadout and appearance, as well as a career that will unlock skills, traits, weapons and other "visual elements" as you progress. For each successful battle completed, players will earn better skills and loot. However, deaths and injuries are permanent, so make sure not to rely on the same gang members all the time in case anything happens to them.

Conquest Mode will offer an "endless" campaign that features 4X mechanics between turn-based battles. You'll be able to fight over the most important territories to take control and make sure your gang is the most feared in the Underhive. There will also be online competitive multiplayer where players can pit their wits against others. Take a look at the game's teaser trailer below, although it doesn't give much away.

Necromunda: Underhive Wars doesn't have a release window yet, but keep your eyes tied to TT for all of the news as we get it.

We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the Necromunda: Underhive Wars trophies.
