Weekend Announcements February 2-4th: PUBG, Song of Memories and More

By Rebecca Smith, 9 months ago
Last weekend was busier than usual and we were left with 15 titles that were announced during the three day period. There's a range of genres and it's likely that most people will find something of interest here. These will all be making their way to the Playstation 4 in the future. Here's the list:

Death Road To Canada

As the name suggests, Rocketcat Games and Madgarden's upcoming title is a "randomly generated, zombie-filled road-trip" from Florida to Ontario. Players have been told that Canada is free from the zombie threat, and the Death Road is all that separates you from safety. Along the way, you'll explore iconic locations to find better weaponry and recruit bizarre companions to help battle the threat. The game's narrative Interactive Fiction events mean decisions need to be made, with friendships made or broken along the way. Players can take the treacherous journey alone or with a friend when the title is released on Playstation 4 this spring.

Detective Gallo

Publishers MixedBag and Adventure Productions have teamed up to bring a couple of point and click titles to Playstation 4 this year, the first of which is Footprints' title about Detective Gallo. Together with his silent assistant cactus, he's investigating multiple plant murders after five exotic plants fall victim to "a shocking event". This might not sound like a massive crime, but when a multi-billionaire offers up a stupid amount of money for you to solve the crime, you're not going to pass it by. The title is due to be released this spring, although there's a chance that's just for PC and the PS4 version will come later.

Guilt Battle Arena

Invincible Cat's is a local multiplayer arena shooter that threatens to end friendships. Players assume the role of a member of The GUILT Patrol who's tasked with bringing peace to the galaxy by defeating the Dreadful Judge and his minions. The catch is that you only have one bullet. Once you've fired that bullet, you need to reclaim it before you can fire it again, meaning you have to think about where your bullet will land as well as who you'll hit with it. We're not entirely sure when the title will arrive on Playstation 4, but judging by the fact that the trailer was called a launch trailer, we're thinking it might be sooner rather than later.

Hellmut: The Badass from Hell

Volcanicc's roguelike dungeon crawler tasks players with defeating hordes of Demonspawn and bosses through performing demonocide. The procedurally generated environments mean that no playthrough is the same, although you'll still need to collect those souls, coins and weapons if you're to be successful. Not everything will be reset in between playthroughs, though, as players can unlock Transformations that are either permanent or temporary. These allow players to control characters like the Rat King, or the spell-casting Orc Fairy, each of which has their own playstyle. You'll be able to unleash your own infernal bulletstorm when the title is released on Playstation 4 later this year.

Hotel Transylvania

After bringing Ben 10 to Playstation 4 last year, and with a new Adventure Time title due to arrive soon, publisher Outright Games' new project is a title to tie in with the upcoming film Hotel Transylvania 3. The game picks up where the film ends, with Drac's Pack finding themselves washed overboard and stranded on some mysterious islands. If they're to get back home, they need to find their friends and the magic compass that shows the way. In order to succeed, players need to solve puzzles, defeat enemies and enlist the help of allies with unique abilities. The title will be arriving on PS4 this summer, when the film is due to hit cinemas.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

PUBG Corp's massively popular battle royale shooter has been rumoured for Playstation 4 for quite a while. This week, their CEO Chang Hang Kim confirmed that the title will be arriving on the console, we're just not sure when that will be because PS4 players will have to wait until the Xbox One exclusivity period has ended. If you've somehow never heard of the title, up to 100 players are dropped onto a remote island in a fight to the death. They need to locate randomly generated weapons, supplies and possibly vehicles in a bid to survive, all while making their way into an ever shrinking playable area. Stay outside the playable area for too long and it's instant death.

Raging Justice

Makin Games' 2D side-scrolling beat 'em up takes place in a city that is being held to ransom. Two cops, Nikki Rage and Rick Justice, aim to prove that no-one is immune from the law. Use surrounding objects to help take down your foes; use a bar stool in a bar fight, or mow down enemies with a ride-on lawnmower. The title will be arriving on Playstation 4 later this year.

Song of Memories

Publisher PQube's next title to be brought to western audiences is Future Tech Lab's visual novel. Players will search for their soulmate in troubled times while an apocalyptic virus threatens to sweep across the world and infect those that are held dear. Known in Japan for being a unique take on the genre, the musical love story comes to North America and Europe on Playstation 4 later this year.

Space Hulk: Tactics

Having brought Blood Bowl to Playstation 4 twice, CYANIDE is back with a new board game property that will be brought to life as a turn-based tactical game. Players battle through an immense Space Hulk, but will you choose to be Terminator Space Marines or the alien Genestealers? Each of the factions has their own narrative-driven campaign where players can control Genestealers for the first time or control a Blood Angels squad. The developer has added their own twist to the game through a card system that allows players to customise their squad before the match begins, as well as triggering "game-changing effects" as the battle progresses. There will also be online multiplayer where players can take on either faction, choosing their Space Marine squad members from four different chapters: Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Ultramarines, and Dark Angels. Players will even be able to create their own maps with custom objectives. The game is due to hit PS4 later this year.

Streets of Red: Devil's Dare Deluxe

Secret Base's "permadeath multiplayer horror beat'em up" pits players against hordes of undead creatures. You'll have the skills of retro gaming heroes to help you, including parodies of characters from Stranger Things, Rick and Morty and Attack on Titan. However, you're only bestowed a certain amount of game quarters at the beginning. Those quarters can be used for continues, or they can be used for upgrades as the game progresses, but if you run out of quarters then your save file dies permanently. How long will you survive when the game arrives on Playstation 4 on February 27th.

The Amazing T.k's Suburban Nightmares

Inspired by the horror/slasher pop culture that emerged in the 80s, this multiplayer survival horror title pits players against each other in a suburban landscape, although other players aren't the only danger. There's a serial killer who's still terrorising his victims, and plenty of copycat psycopaths that he's inspired. Players will collect the souls of the enemies they kill; the person with the most at the end of the match will be declared the winner. Each of the maps will accommodate four players locally and have six AI characters with unique weapons and statistics. Having recently been funded on Kickstarter, the title is now aiming for a Playstation 4 release in December.

The Void Rains Upon Her Heart

If you like bullet-hell boss-rush titles, then Veyeral Games' debut title will be right up your street. If it's a genre that you want to break into but have always found it to be too intimidating, the title also offers to be the ideal introduction as players can select their own difficulty level. Inspired by Kirby, Undertale, Cuphead, and The Binding of Isaac, the game has its own art direction and style. Players help a small alien girl by taking control of her heart. By shooting love hearts from it, players will show monsters how to love again. The title enters Steam Early Access this month. When the title leaves Early Access, it will also be released on Playstation 4.

The Wardrobe

This is the second point and click title from MixedBag and Adventure Productions, and you'll be glad to know that the story of C.I.N.I.C. Games' title is just as bizarre as the first. Ronald was having a picnic with his best friend Skinny when Skinny ate a plum. Not knowing that he was allergic to the fruit, Skinny suffered anaphylactic shock and died. Ronald, who gave Skinny the plum, panicked and fled. Now Skinny is a skeleton who lives in Ronald's bedroom closet, literally, but Ronald doesn't know this. However, if Skinny is to save his friend from eternal damnation, he'll have to reveal himself and make Ronald admit to his "crime". Will you accept the challenge when the game arrives on Playstation 4 later this year?

This Is the Police 2

Weappy Studio's follow up to This Is the Police places players in Sharpwood, a remote northern border town. The residents know each other by name and resolutely stick to their traditions, even if they're barbaric. As such, the town is now home to smugglers, gangs and screaming populists. Lilly Reed is the new sheriff tasked with keeping things in line, but this is a police department that isn't used to taking orders from a woman. The job is only complicated when a mysterious stranger appears, but nobody knows whether Warren Nash will save the town or condemn it. The game combines adventure and management again, but this time every challenge will require players to directly participate. Your men are no longer just a resource, they're people with strengths, weaknesses, fears and prejudices. You'll get to manage all of this when the title appears on Playstation 4 later this year.

Xenon Valkyrie+

After releasing on PlayStation Vita at the end of last year, COWCAT's second title will be arriving on consoles in just a couple of weeks' time. The rogue-like title tasks players with reaching the deepest part of the moon to finish the plans created by a wicked witch. You'll find a variety of weapons, defeat many enemies and encounter other characters that come together to tell a legendary story. Originally released on PC a year ago, the console version adds extra things like major gameplay improvements and translations. You'll be able to buy it on Playstation 4 on February 20th.
