Weekend Announcements January 26-28th: The American Dream, PixARK and More

By Rebecca Smith,
The announcements continue to roll in at a steady rate. The past weekend brought along another six titles that you may have missed. These will all be making their way to the Playstation 4 in the future. Here's the list:

Blasters of the Universe

Once the king of the local arcade, Grand Master Alwyn felt this wasn't enough, so he uploaded his consciousness into the VR world during the 90s. Here he formed a world that was perfectly suited to himself, filled with minions of his own creation, waiting for somebody to challenge him. Then along comes you with your mission to take back the world of VR. Build your own weapon from over 130,000 different combinations before heading into battle against the complex 3D bullet patterns that Alwyn has developed. Aside from the campaign, there is Endless Mode that tasks players with surviving as long as possible, and Challenge Mode with new objectives every week. Players can take on Alwyn in his own game when it arrives for Playstation VR on February 27th.

PixARK

If you haven't had enough of the ARK universe but are starting to tire of ARK: Survival Evolved, Snail Games' upcoming "open world voxel-based sandbox survival" title may be of interest. Aimed firmly at gamers of all ages, the game drops players on a strange procedurally generated island, where they find themselves stranded. You need to hunt, harvest, craft, farm and build if you're to survive. As well as dinosaurs and natural hazards, players are also at risk from other hostile players. There will be over 100 dinosaurs and other creatures to tame and train, eight biomes to explore and procedurally generated quests to take on. There will also be a Creative Mode where players can concentrate on building whatever they please. The title will arrive on Playstation 4 later this year.

Pop-Up Pilgrims

Dakko Dakko's upcoming Playstation VR title asks players to guide a group of pilgrims on their quest in a "2D-in-3D" world. You'll need to help them defeat demons and cross dangerous islands, all while trying to reclaim the source of power for their god. Players simply need to look where they want the pilgrims to perform an action and then press the button to get them to do it. It sounds simple until you realise you're controlling multiple pilgrims who wander in multiple directions. Will you be able to guide them to safety when the game is released on February 13th?

R.B.I. Baseball 18

The latest in the R.B.I. Baseball franchise was revealed through a typical cover star announcement, with Cleveland Indians' Francisco Lindor taking the honours. This title will include a new Franchise Mode where players can take control of their favourite MLB team. There's also a new Home Run Derby Mode where players can take on a friend or an AI opponent. Other improvements include better ballparks, redesigned player models, over 100 MLB legends and roster updates throughout the 2018 season. The title will land on Playstation 4 in March.

The American Dream

Samurai Punk's upcoming Playstation VR title places players in America during a fictional 1950's world fair. Here, gun manufacturers are trying to persuade you that all of your problems can be solved with guns. They can also take care of your everyday needs. No, really. Whether it's a pistol, rifle or shotgun, you can eat a meal with them. You can drive a car with them. You can even earn a wage with them. If you don't believe me, take a look at the trailer below. In the meantime, the title will arrive later this year.

Those Who Remain

Camel 101's psychological thriller is set in Dormont, a small town in the United States where nothing is as it seems. The town has been cursed by a demon, and most of the town's population has been trapped in a darkness that surrounds everything. If it seems things couldn't get any worse, creatures roam the darkness and kill anybody that comes too close. Players assume the role of Edward Turner, who happens to stumble across Dormont at the worst possible time. He soon discovers that he'll need to stay in the light if he wants to survive, but he mustn't confuse the safety of the light with the strange portals that also litter the town that also give off a bright light. If he passes through one of them, he'lll be taken to another place that appears similar but is different in small ways. His actions in each location will have repercussions in the other, so you'll need to be careful when you get your hands on the Playstation 4 title later this year.

Will you be picking up any of these titles?
