Marvel Heroes Omega Support Ended, Closure on December 31st

By Kevin Tavore,
It’s been a great year for Marvel fans. The three movies were among the highest rated yet and no doubt stole the show, but gamers weren’t left in the cold either. In addition to a port and a new release in the Marvel vs. Capcom universe, we were treated to Marvel Heroes Omega. The game is a dungeon crawler in the same vein as Diablo and is currently free to play, but not for long: support for the game has ended as Disney severed ties with the developer.

Marvel Heroes Omega

In an emailed statement to Kotaku, Disney had the following to say:
We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.
This no doubt comes as a surprise to many considering the game only released a few months ago. The exact reason is unclear (although with the recent delisting of Deadpool, it seems Disney and Marvel may just be tightening up who has control over the IP), but the end result is not. The game will be shut down.

In an official statement from the developer, it has been confirmed that the game's servers will shut down on December 31st. Real money purchases will be removed very soon and the statement indicates that purchasable items will be available for free. Players would do well to start working on wrapping up the trophies as soon as possible.
