Weekend Announcements September 1st-3rd: Dead Rising 4, Tiny Metal and More

By Rebecca Smith,
Last weekend saw many developers and publishers head to Seattle for PAX West 2017. While far quieter than Gamescom a couple of weeks prior to that, there were still a number of announcements that you may have missed. There are 13 titles in total so take a look at the list below:

Alaloth - Champions of The Four Kingdoms

Described as the "very first isometric souls-like game ever made", the fantasy action RPG features skill-based gameplay that is inspired by "classics such as Moonstone and modern masterpieces as Dark Souls". Players can choose from four playable races (Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs) and fight for over 40 houses and clans that each have their own backgrounds, alliances and intrigues. Once you've finished the game, you can start your own legacy and write your own history in the world of The Four Kingdoms, an ever-changing world created by Chris Avellone (Icewind Dale, Fallout, Pillars of Eternity). The title will be coming to Playstation 4 in 2018.

Aquanox Deep Descent

At the hands of publisher THQ Nordic, many previously lost franchises are returning to modern day consoles. The latest of these is the AquaNox series, the first of which was released in 2001. Thanks to a successful Kickstarter, developer Digital Arrow has re-imagined the world and gameplay of the original series to bring this latest title to Playstation 4. Players take control of a team of highly trained fighter pilots, but they won't be taking to the skies to show off their prowess. Instead, this team will be heading into the depths of the ocean and the deepest trenches in existence. Set in a dystopian future, mankind has fled the surface of the Earth and lives in underwater stations, but it's up to the squad and their torpedoes, mortars, mines and other weaponry to keep the peace.

Chaos on Deponia

The second in Daedalic Entertainment's Deponia point and click series of games sees Rufus panicking when his home planet, Deponia, is scheduled for demolition. He needs to leave Deponia behind and travel to Elysium, but only Goal can enable him to do this. Unfortunately her brain implant has become split between three different discs, each representing a different side to her personality. Rufus needs to reunite the three discs while protecting them from Goal's angry fiancé Cletus, the evil Organon, unorganized crime and rebels. Will he be able to persuade Goal to let him venture to Elysium with her and escape his planet? You'll find out when the game comes to Playstation 4 on December 6th.

Dead Rising 4

Released exclusively for Xbox One and PC almost a year ago, the latest in the Dead Rising franchise will be coming to Playstation 4 once that one-year exclusivity period has ended. On December 5th, PS4 players will take over the role of Frank West once again as he investigates a new zombie outbreak in Willamette, Colorado. When the game arrives as Frank's Big Package, it will include the base game, all title updates, all DLC expansions ("Stocking Stuffer Holiday Pack", "Frank Rising" and "Super Ultra Dead Rising 4 Mini Golf") and all cosmetic DLC ("Street Fighter Outfit Pack", "My Bloody Valentine Pack", "Candy Cane Crossbow", "Slicecycle", "Sir-Ice-A-Lot", "Ugly Winter Sweater" and "X-Fists"). There will also be a new "Capcom Heroes" DLC that is yet to be released on any platform, which will include over a dozen outfits and the ability to perform special attacks from classic Capcom characters.

Glu Mobile's mobile franchise will be heading to Playstation 4 for the first time this fall. Players travel to some of the highest rated hunting regions in North America, "from the plains of West Texas to the rugged terrain of Alaska". Upgrade your firearms, scopes and other accessories to help with your task and eventually earn yourself the title of Master Hunter.

Little is known about this upcoming Playstation VR title apart from that it's a "suspenseful FPS featuring novel VR locomotion technology" that is supposed to be nausea free. Players explore dynamically-generated levels and defeat the demon-like enemies that lie within. There will be RPG progression as you can improve your natural and supernatural abilities to help on your quest.

"Episode 1: Seeds of Corruption", released on September 26th, will see Lance discover the remains of a lost alien race. In doing so, he releases "an unstoppable force that threatens to corrupt the Paladins’ control over both their Lions and Voltron". Players must overcome this corrupt force in a mix of cinematic adventure, interactive puzzle solving and battles with a variety of weapons.

HIVE: Altenum Wars

Recently admitted into the Sony: Playstation Talents program, developer Catness Game Studios has now guaranteed that their upcoming futuristic 2.5D side-scrolling multiplayer hero shooter will be released on Playstation 4 during the holiday period. Up to 10 players do battle in hexagonal combat arenas that are each divided into six zones of different gravitational direction. There will be eight playable characters, each with a variety of weapons and skills that can be chosen in any combination. Alongside the King of the Hill and Team Deathmatch modes, there will also be a single player Survival Mode for those who want a break away from people.

Now, together with publisher Annapurna Interactive, the game's five episodes and companion interludes will be packaged together for Playstation 4 and released next year as the TV Edition. An antique furniture delivery man is trying to make his shop's last delivery for the day but he gets lost. Along the way he meets many characters including a haunted TV repairwoman, a young boy and his giant eagle brother, and a pair of robot musicians. Together these characters explore the highways and byways of Kentucky, the storied Echo River and the mysterious Route Zero, a secret highway that runs through Mammoth Cave.

Kingdom: Two Crowns

Details on Noio's upcoming sequel to Kingdom: New Lands are thin on the ground, but we do know that the game will include a "new win scenario, additional tech level, new citizen role, and more stuff we don’t want to spoil!" when it comes to Playstation 4 next year. There will also be split-screen, drop-in, drop-out co-op so that a friend or family member can help to rule the land, hence the game's name. Finally, there will be a brand new soundtrack with no recycled tracks, as well as overhauled visuals that include new skins for the rulers.

My Eyes On You

Storymind Entertainment's upcoming "3D neon noir mystery action/adventure" title puts players in the shoes of Jordan Adalien, an FBI agent who has been framed for a crime he didn't commit. He must hunt down the Man in the Crimson Mask who has left a trail of bloodshed behind him as he escapes a masked gang led by Carnival Man. Adalien's anxiety will come into play when he gets stressed, impacting his abilities and even causing hallucinations. The clues that players also uncover will affect the path that the story takes, whether you follow a rational explanation or whether you delve into elements of the occult. Which path will you take when the game is released on Playstation 4 in the future?

Preta: Vendetta Rising

Illion's hack & slash action RPG puts players in the world of Akirion, a land where a deadly epidemic has transformed the living into flesh-craving Pretas. The few survivors are gathered into militias but there are few warriors like yourself to help defend the land. You'll need to explore, gather materials, craft weapons and defeat the Pretas if you're to discover the origin of the plague's outbreak and save Akirion. As well as single-player gameplay, there will be a co-op campaign with another friend and co-op multiplayer raids that allow up to four players. The game will be released for Playstation 4 this fall with VR compatibility and cross-play support between the VR and non-VR players.

Tiny Metal

Area 34's upcoming title is advertised as "the Japanese Arcade Wargame you wish you had as a kid". Players assume the role of Artemisian Lieutenant Nathan Gries as he attempts to command his units to victory against the "villainous nation" of Zipang. There will be 13 unique units to utilise, a variety of factions to encounter and a number of abilities to use as you go through the 8-10 hour campaign. You'll need to take into account the terrain, the perfect position for an attack, strategic advancements and, of course, your defences. The title will be released on Playstation 4 this fall.

Will you be picking up any of these titles?
