The Lighthouse Smashes Funding Goal

Despite Kickstarter having more than a few duds, crowdfunding remains a successful way to get a game off the ground. Developer Shadow Knights Studio isn't entirely using the website in that way for their upcoming game The Lighthouse — they had already been self-funding the first-person exploration game for years — but simply asked for another $10,000 to "enable us to elevate The Lighthouse beyond what we can achieve on our own."

The nice part about that approach is that Shadow Knights already had quite a bit of the game to show off. Players liked what they saw in the atmospheric screenshots and videos and it's paid Shadow Knights back in dividends, with the current $25,000+ funding total more than doubling the initial $10,000 goal. There are additional stretch goals that have not been reached, like a $100,000 VR goal, but the stretch goals already reached allowed Shadow Knights to add localization and additional content.

The Lighthouse sees private investigator James Irvine on the hunt for missing girl Lily Beaumont. While the scene is set in the 1960s on the farm of the Wescott family, a wealthy and well-known family in Maine, it also offers "glimpses into psychotic alternate dimensions." The Lighthouse was the place Lily was last seen.

Players will explore environments, solve puzzles and more, all while "avoiding a dangerous presence following you."The puzzles and environments are all faithful to the 1960s atmosphere, so don't expect the main character to have any helpful technology on hand.

The Lighthouse still has a few days left of its campaign before it ends on Monday, August 14th. No release date has been announced but the current estimated delivery date for Kickstarter backers is listed as October 2017 on Playstation 4.

We don't have them yet, but we'll publish a story as soon as we pick up the The Lighthouse trophies.
