Weekend Headlines August 4th-6th: Horizon: Zero Dawn, Matterfall and More

By Rebecca Smith,
Following on from the six announcements comes a list of details, videos and updates that were released over the weekend. Take a look and see what you might have missed:

.hack//G.U. Last Recode

When .hack//G.U. Last Recode is released later this year, it won't just come with HD remasters of Rebirth, Redemption and Reminisce, it will come with a fourth brand new episode that details events that take place 15 months after Redemption. Haseo has since quit the MMORPG in which the .hack//G.U. games take place, but he then receives an e-mail that hints at the location of his friend who disappeared, Ovan. With the MMORPG due to close its servers on December 31st, 2018, Haseo must return to the game and find his friend before it's too late. The adventure will include Haseo's 5th form, a new Job Extend from his Xth form, as well as new characters and dungeons. Accompanying the announcement was a batch of screens showcasing the new episode.

ARK Park

While a lot has been said about the upcoming release of ARK: Survival Evolved, very little has been said about its VR counterpart. This extension of the franchise is still coming to Playstation VR by the end of the year and you can take a look at the latest trailer to see what to expect.

Cat Quest

This feline-themed RPG has yet to receive a release date for Playstation 4, but it has just been released on Steam and iOS. As such, we have the obligatory launch trailer. Take a look at our hero vanquishing a variety of enemies, as well as his impressive collection of weapons and hats.

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony

The brand new school year has brought along a brand new cast of Ultimates in the latest instalment in the Danganronpa franchise. You'll see five of them in the new trailer below, but you won't actually get to meet them until the game releases for PS4 and Vita on September 26th in North America and September 29th in Europe.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Revealed during Sony's E3 showcase, "The Frozen Wilds" will allow players to explore a new area, uncover new mysteries and take on new machines. Developer Guerrilla Games has promised more information on the DLC as we approach its release date, which has now been revealed as November 7th. In the meantime, you can take a look at the new trailer below. If that ticks all of the right boxes then you'll be pleased to know that pre-ordering the DLC will gift you an exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn avatar.

Matterfall

Housemarque's latest shooter is only a week away. With that in mind, Producer Sami Hakala, Game Director Tommi Hartikainen, Lead Artist Niko Makela and Lead Level Designer Jari Hokkanen talk about the studio's history and the game itself before its release. Prepare for explosions... lots of explosions.

Star Trek Online

Perfect World Entertainment revealed that LeVar Burton (Star Trek: The Next Generation) will be voicing his character Geordi La Forge in two upcoming episodes for the game. The first episode, "Beyond the Nexus", aims to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Next Generation. Alongside La Forge and his crew, players will investigate a distress call from a Galaxy-class ship whose crew is being mind-controlled by a strange energy source. The second episode, "Melting Pot", will mark the start of "Season 14 - Emergence". This update continues the story of the Tzenkethi war. Players will explore a new world where the Kentari and Lukari have reconciled their differences and started a new colony, but things don't run smoothly. There will also be a new Fleet Holding, a Tzenkethi Red Alert, two new fleet holding defense queues, a new colony map special event and a new Primary Specialization called the Miracle Worker. None of this content has a release date yet for consoles.

Terraria

Pipeworks Studio continues to showcase the content that will be arriving on console with update 1.3. The latest video shows the yo-yos that players will encounter on their travels. Trust me, yo-yos are not as innocent as they sound.

The Bunker

Last week we revealed that the physical edition of Night Trap - 25th Anniversary Edition will be on sale this Friday through Limited Run. In a week that the company is now dubbing "FMV Friday", the title will be accompanied by the physical release of Splendy Games' The Bunker. The first batch will go on sale at 10AM EDT while the second batch will be released at 6PM EDT.

Limited Run

The Lost Bear

Developer Odd Bug Studio will be using Playstation VR to tell the story of a young girl on a mission to rescue her teddy bear. The aim is to transport players into the puppet show set that hosts the game's world. The environment will shift around them as they progress through the story and the motion detection on the Dualshock 4 controller will enable players to interact with the world. You can see how the game's VR mechanics will work in the trailer below.

Tricky Towers

The title may well have been released over a year ago, but if you've been yearning for a physical release of WeirdBeard Games' puzzle title then you're in luck. Publisher SOEDESCO has announced that a physical Playstation 4 version will hit retailers on November 3rd. If you're not sure what to expect from the physics-based tower builder, take a look at the trailer below.

Trove

The Eclipse update for Trove will be released on August 22nd and with it will come a variety of new features. One of those features is Gem Forging, where players can improve the stats on existing gems or change them by rerolling them. The following video gives a preview of how this feature will work.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

BJ Blazkowicz does not begin The New Colossus in the best state of health, but he's not going to let that stop him. The following trailer showcases some of the wheelchair combat right at the beginning of the game. Bethesda's Gary Steinman and MachineGames' Jerk Gustafsson and Jens Matthies provide some insight as we see that Blazkowicz may be broken physically, but he's not broken mentally.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA (JP)

Last week we were introduced to Dana, a mysterious blue-haired maiden who is the subject of protagonist Adol's dreams. In the latest trailer we meet the characters who will be accompanying Adol on his quest. There's the young noblewoman Laxia, honest fisherman Sahad, enigmatic transporter Hummel, and Seiren native Ricotta. Will you manage to triumph together over the island's many dangers?
