Weekend Announcements August 4-6th: Dragon Quest XI, The Game Paradise and More

By Rebecca Smith,
This weekend brought along six new titles across Playstation 4 and Vita. There is an investigation into a series of murders, a battle against the Demon King, a new instalment of Dragon Quest, a battle to escape a nightmarish prison, atonement for your sins in a previous life and the prevention of an arcade takeover. Here they are:

Mages' visual novel tell the story of the New Generation Murders, a series of bizarre killings that have taken place in Shibuya, Tokyo. Takuru Miyashiro notices that the dates of the recent murders match up with the dates of another series of murders that took place six years previously, before the earthquake that killed his parents. Takuru predicts when the next murder is due to take place and decides to investigate alongside his classmates from the Newspaper club. The following events place them all in mortal dnager and change Takuru's life for a second time. The title will be coming to Playstation 4 and Vita during Q3 2017 and the exclusive Gigalomaniac Edition can be purchased from Rice Digital.

Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online

Tamsoft and Compile Heart have joined forces to create a hack ‘n’ slash title where four Goddesses protect and rule over their respective nations in a world that only exists in an alternate dimension. Neptune, Noire, Blanc, and Vert have now been chosen to be beta testers in a new online game as official models, but once they log in they find that the purpose of their visit is very different. After meeting with Bouquet, a guardian spirit, they realise that they're the chosen ones tasked with reviving the Goddesses of Legend and defeating the Demon King, who is threatening to destroy the world of Alsgard. Players will take part in real-time 4-person brawls where they'll get the chance to unleash devastating Awakening Skills. The title will be coming this winter for Playstation 4.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

Few details were given for the next instalment in the Dragon Quest series, although more information is promised for this fall. We do know that the game follows a hero who must solve the mystery of his fate with the help of a large cast of supporting characters. Akira Toriyama will be providing the character art and Koichi Sugiyama will be composing the game's music. The title will arrive for Playstation 4 in 2018 in western regions, although it has recently released in Japan if you don't want to wait that long.

Mary Skelter: Nightmares (Vita)

Years ago, The Jail appeared and sank the nearby city deep underground. Nightmarish creatures called Marchens tortured the jail's residents, including a boy called Jack. One day, a girl from the Blood Team rescued him but escape wasn't as easy as it seemed. Compile Heart's dungeon crawler pits Jack and the maidens from the Blood Team against the monsters in turn-based battles where you can either stand your ground or lay traps to slow the monsters down while you flee. Blood transformations boost up your allies and allow access to unique skills. Idea Factory will be bringing the game west on Playstation Vita on September 19th in North America and September 22nd in Europe.

Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption

Dark Star's "boss battler action-RPG" tells the tale of Adam, a fallen soldier who exists in the afterlife, who wishes to restore his memories and make up for his sins in his previous life. His quest pits him against eight bosses, seven of which are based on one of the seven deadly sins. In a twist on the usual levelling system, Adam needs to make sacrifices before he can battle his foes — he needs to choose a stat that he can sacrifice and level down. This makes every fight tougher than the last, although there will be a variety of unlockable weapons to help along the way. Players must choose their actions carefully because Adam's interactions with each boss will determine his fate at the end of the game, with a variety of endings waiting to be discovered. You'll need to wait until Q1 2018 for the title on Playstation 4.

The Game Paradise CruisinMix

Back in 1997, shoot 'em up The Game Paradise was released for the SEGA Saturn. Twenty years later, Kadokawa Games and City Connection have announced a full port of the title for Playstation 4. The game tells the story of Yamada, the self-proclaimed Super Duper Genius Smart Guy who has plans to take over the gaming world. His first target is the arcade cabinets at the You&Me Kamiyoga arcade in Kamiyoga, Tokyo, but he won't get away with it if part-time arcade employee Yui Ito has anything to do with it. Before the arcade opens, she hacks together all of the spare arcade circuit boards and summons the main characters of those games to help her to take Yamada down. A release window for the west is yet to be revealed but the game will be released in Japan this winter.

Do any of these titles take your fancy?
