GroundShatter, the Bristol-based team who made Skyscrappers, has announced their next title, RICO. A procedurally-generated buddy-cop first-person shooter, the game takes inspiration from the Bad Boys films as well as games old and new, including Virtua Cop, F.E.A.R and SUPERHOT VR. In addition, RICO's cel-shaded art style is somewhat reminiscent of original Xbox title XIII, which you can see in the screenshots below. No big "BLAM" or "BAOOM" as of yet, unfortunately.
The player will take on the role of a loose cannon detective that only has one day to solve a case and bring down a criminal organisation. The gameplay itself is purposefully simple, with most of the game involving door-kicking (which will trigger a burst of slow-motion) and criminal-shooting. The main variety will supposedly come from the procedural generation; GroundShatter promises that every case, objective and environment is randomly generated with longevity coming from a series of unlockables. To see the game in action, feel free to check out the game's announcement trailer below:
With the duo detectives in the trailer above and considering the game's buddy-cop inspirations, it should be no surprise that you'll also be able to play through RICO with a friend, either split-screen or online, in addition to playing the game solo.
If any or all of that intrigues you, you shouldn't have too long to wait as RICO is currently scheduled to launch this summer.
We've got the full list of RICO trophies - check the list for guides to unlocking them.
