Last month, we heard the news that Square Enix and Hitman
series developer IO-Interactive would be parting ways
after eight years, with the Danish studio's future very much up in the air. Today, that future has been revealed and, luckily, the developer is still going to be around but independent, and is holding on to the Hitman
IP that made them famous.
In a statement by IO-Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak, which can be read in full on their website
, they thank not only players and the media for their support these past few weeks but Square Enix for what the two companies achieved across their eight year partnership. This not only included work on the Hitman
franchise but also Kane & Lynch
and Mini Ninjas
titles. Naturally, the team is also excited for the future and is now open to opportunities for collaborations and partnerships.
I'm sure we can all agree that we're extremely happy at this outcome and hope to see IO-Interactive (or IO-Independent as Hakan Abrak signs off this announcement) stick around for a long time.
