Ubisoft has just revealed a new IP, Skull & Bones. Ubisoft Singapore has taken the naval combat system introduced in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and developed it even further to create a whole new pirate-themed experience. For starters, the team has created a class-based combat system and implemented dynamic weather, which can make or break your chances in these new naval battles. Ubisoft has also released a ton of information, screenshots, and videos to go along with the reveal.
In Skull & Bones, you play as an upstart captain in the Indian Ocean during the Golden Age of Piracy. As you play through the game, you'll form a crew, establish a hideout, plunder convoys, and gain notoriety. The life of a pirate wasn't all fun and games though, and the cinematic trailer below shows this.
Skull & Bones features both PvE and PvP combat. As such, ship customisation is a big part of the game's overall experience. Game director at Ubisoft Singapore, Bill Money, had this to say about customisation:
The bustling deck of the Jackdaw feels calm in comparison to the hive of activity on a Skull & Bones warship. Crew members scurry about handling tasks and manning posts, while ropes and lanterns swing to and fro beneath the tapestry of sails fluttering overheard. The ship feels alive, and if you sail up next to an ally, you’ll see their ship looks similarly lively, but noticeably different. Customization is an important part of building a name for yourself in Skull & Bones.
You'll be able to tailor your ship to your liking and eventually amass a fleet as you plunder enemies and make a name for yourself on the high seas. Choosing certain weapons for combat tactics is where customisation shows its practicality.
