The team behind Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is led by former Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi, and is considered a spiritual successor to the series. The game will use the Metroidvania style of action and exploration, first made famous in the 1997 title Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, often considered one of the best games of all time. In this interview with partner studio DICO's anonymous Technical Director, he explains the difficulties they faced using the unfamiliar Unreal Engine 4 and the challenges of creating the best of both worlds for the game's 2.5D environments.

The E3 trailer has also been released a few days early, giving us an idea as to what to expect in terms of gameplay and one of the boss battles.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is due for release in 2018.
