Thief released in 2014 as the return of a once-great series. The fourth title to bear the Thief name, the game set out to modernize the formula and re-establish the series in the minds of gamers everywhere. While the reception for the game was hit or miss, there was undeniably something there in the eyes of many and gamers have been clamoring for a sequel. It seems now that a sequel is coming. A website for a Thief movie has gone up and it has an interesting tidbit in its very brief description (emphasis mine):
Thief is an action epic poised to be the next great multi-platform franchise.
Originally released in 1998 by Eidos Interactive (Deus Ex) and distributed by Square Enix (Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy), the Thief series has spanned over fifteen years and four sequels continually retaining loyal audiences and attracting new fans with each iteration. Widely considered to be one of the greatest games ever created, a fifth sequel is currently in development to be released in step with this motion picture adaptation.
Steeped in the steam-punk world created by the video game, the film will tell a new chapter in the storied world of the series’ hero.
It seems Garrett hasn't killed (or snuck by)
his last guard just yet.
It could be that an E3 surprise was just spoiled, or perhaps the game is so far away we wouldn't even have heard from it this year. E3's a big time, so excited fans should keep an eye out in June for more details.
