Weekend Headlines April 14th-16th Part 2: Nioh, NieR: Automata, FFXIV and More

By Rebecca Smith,
Moving swiftly on to the second part of the weekend headlines:

Nex Machina

The latest trailer for Housemarque's latest shoot 'em up introduces three new gameplay features. First is the Season Structure, a competitive environment where players can earn Ranks, Experience Points, and Season Coins. The seasons could last weeks or months. Next up is Challenges where different parameters and game rules can be mixed and matched to create a different gameplay experience. Finally there is a Replay Mode where every run on the leaderboard is recorded and can be viewed by any player at any time.

NieR: Automata

Square Enix announced new DLC for their recently released RPG. Conveniently titled "3C3C1D119440927" (try saying that quickly), the content adds three new colosseums and more sub-quests. Once players have completed the quests, they will be able to earn rewards like costumes from NieR: Replicant, music tracks for the player's jukebox, new equipment, cosmetic accessories, masks with unique effects when equipped, and special bullets. A price for the content wasn't announced but we've been promised that it's "coming soon".

Nightmare Boy

This title is currently in beta on Steam. The following video shows gameplay footage captured from that beta as Nightmare Boy puts his life on the line for the greater good.

Nioh (PS4)

On May 2nd, Nioh will be getting the "Dragon of the North" DLC. The expansion follows on from the events of the main game. Rumours are circling that the ruler of the Oshu region, Masamune Date, is secretly gathering spirit stones. As the Yokai are already flourishing in Oshu, it's inevitable that there will be tumultuous times ahead. Players will battle through a new region with new enemies and a new weapon, an odachi. There will also be new armour, ninja skills, magic and Guardian Spirits. Finally there will be PvP features, although these weren't detailed. The DLC will be included in the game's Season Pass or will be available individually at €9.99 / £7.99.

The latest trailer for this upcoming tactical RPG introduces a new character: Signy. She's a feral warrior from the west and will be one of the many unusual characters who may join your party.

Remedy Entertainment

Five months ago, Remedy teased players that a new game trailer would be "coming soon". We're still waiting, unless you count the 1-year anniversary trailer for Quantum Break. However, Remedy has confirmed that they're working on a title that is currently codenamed P7 and it won't be an Xbox exclusive. Right now, the developer is trying to get their game on "a wider range of platforms" and they're doing this by adapting their Northlight technology for the Playstation 4 console. Keep your eyes peeled for more news as we get it.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew

Red Storm Entertainment's Playstation VR voyage into the Star Trek universe will be available at retailers next month. Meanwhile, take a look at the latest trailer that explains all of the roles that players can fulfil.

Tarsier Studios' Playstation VR puzzle title will be arriving on the Playstation Store as early as next week, April 24th. Check out the release trailer below for a taste of what to expect.

The Caligula Effect (Vita)

When this RPG is released on Playstation Vita, players will be able to purchase a Digital Deluxe bundle for no extra cost. As well as a copy of the game, the edition will include a theme featuring µ and various characters, 19 avatars and a swimsuit costume DLC pack. The game will cost US$39.99/€39.99/£29.99 when it is released on May 2nd.

The Golf Club 2

Developer HB Studios has started a new sneak peak series of videos for their upcoming golf game. The first shows the player getting a hole in one, while the second shows a long drive on a peaceful day on the course.

AEIOWU's upcoming title places players in the role of a seed that must roll up a procedurally generated mountain to reach the summit and save its home. The catch is that the mountain is filled with holes and unfriendly creatures that will be trying to halt your progress. Upgrades will make the seed more powerful while new friends will be able to help you out. You'll get to give the game a go when it is released on May 2nd for Playstation 4.

Yakuza Kiwami

Announced at last year's PSX, the latest in the Yakuza franchise will be making its way west on August 29th. All players who pre-order the title in Europe will be able to receive the day one Steelbook Edition. Launch copies will also include the steelbook as long as supplies last. The steelbook has not yet been confirmed for North America. Meanwhile, take a look at the new story trailer to get an idea of what to expect:

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles (PS4)

In Prideful Sloth's action-adventure title, players will be able to explore eight different environments, each of which has their own flora and fauna. The latest trailers show off two of these biomes — Hearthwind Vale and The Grasslands.
