Weekend Announcements March 31st - April 2nd: Little Hawk, Rad Rodgers and More

By Rebecca Smith,
Despite the joking tone of the weekend, six new titles were revealed to be coming to the Playstation 4. Two of these are successful Kickstarter projects, one of which has just begun a partnership with a major publisher. Two of them were also released today. Here they are:

Dick Wilde

If you managed to get to EGX Rezzed last weekend, you might have managed to get your hands on this upcoming Playstation VR title. Dick Wilde is the ultimate outdoorsman and “Exterminator Extraordinaire”. With an aresenal that includes saw-blade rifles, nail guns and an electrified bow and arrow, he will take to the Mississippi swamps to bag himself some 'gators, crocs, piranhas and out-of-control birds. If he doesn't get them, they'll get him instead. The online leader board will allow players to take on others from around the world, competing for the longest killstreaks and top scores across different environments and difficulties.

Little Hawk

This platformer begins in a village on the edge of a magical forest. Evil has ravaged the village, razing the buildings to the ground and killing many villagers. Worst of all, the Chief's daughter Princess Kyra has been kidnapped. Players assume the role of the titular Little Hawk. He's a young man with a big heart, street smarts, and swagger; he's also not the person that would be your number one choice for rescuing the princess. Still, needs must when the village's ranks have been severely diminished. Not only must Little Hawk rescue the princess, he must defeat the evil forces that caused so much death and destruction. The thing is that Princess Kyra isn't entirely defenceless. As Little Hawk makes his way through the forest, she's escaping from the castle dungeon in which she is imprisoned.

Mortal Blitz

Korean developer Skonec isn't too forthcoming about their upcoming VR shooter and neither is Sony, despite the fact that it was released today. Players join the ‘Yuhei’ ex- F.O.R.C.E., a band of elite soldiers working for the government. Their aim is to thwart the evil plans of the Dominion’s Teratoma Destruction Plan. Players will be able to dual-wield weapons, use psychokinetic powers to interact with objects and stun enemies to allow for slow motion and in-air finishes.

Plutobi: The Dwarf Planet Tales

Also released today (what is it with so many late announcements?) on Playstation 4, this is a tale of a planet out for revenge. In an alternate universe, Plutobi was kicked out of the Solar System's planet list in 2006. He became a dwarf planet due to his small stature and weak nature. However, Plutobi decided to gain revenge by demonstrating his real power against the other planets. As he absorbs asteroids he gets stronger and it will only be a matter of time before the other planets and moons genuinely have something to fear.

Rad Rodgers

Six months ago, this platformer was successfully funded on Kickstarter. The game was set to appear on Playstation 4 but then went very quiet. Now, a console port is going ahead thanks to a new deal with publisher THQ Nordic. Inspired by classic titles like Commander Keen, Conker, Ruff'n'Tumble and Jazz Jackrabbit, the title aims to bring back the feel of 90's era PC platformers. Like most of us, Rad is a boy who plays too many video games. Having dozed off after a long night of gaming, Rad awakens to find that his console, Dusty, has turned itself back on. When a vortex springs from the TV, Rad and Dusty are sucked into their very own video game adventure. In this decaying jungle, the duo must save the jungle's residents and restore the Elder Tree, their revered guardian of the land.

The Invisible Hours

Developed by Tequila Works (Deadlight, RiME, The Sexy Brutale), few details are known about this recently revealed murder mystery that's set to hit Playstation VR in the future. The developer has partnered with GameTrust to create this "deeply immersive theater VR experience". Players can freely explore a sprawling old mansion as they try to find out the truth amidst a web of interwoven and intricate stories.

Join us tomorrow for the rest of the news to emerge from the weekend.
