Mages of Mystralia Goes Above and Beyond Funding Target

By Ashley Woodcock,
Borealys Games has been receiving a lot of love for their Kickstarted, magic-filled title Mages of Mystralia. The team took a trip to GDC 2017 earlier this month. Shortly after, the same game was taken to PAX East 2017 where the title was nominated for Best Indie Game.

After taking to Kickstarter in the hopes of raising funds to help work on the title, their original target of CA$25,000 has been smashed in five days as the game currently sits at CA$87,835 from 2254 backers, with 21 days still to go! With the great news for the team comes new details on just one of the many enemy types players will be taking on — Goblins.

Tribes of Goblins will roam the Valley. As well as having an appetite for the same meat foods humans eat, they also like to eat humans too. Goblins will fight each other but should a non-goblin threat approach a tribe, they will unite and become one in battle. Goblins are known to others for being aggressive so it doesn't come as a surprise that they will attack non-goblin creatures wildly and recklessly.

Goblins can be found using spears and knives to kill and eat any kind of flesh on which they can get their hands. Eating smaller animals such as rats, mice and birds is beneficial for their survival, but when Goblins tuck in on larger chunks of flesh that will have tried to put up a much better fight, these once formidable foes will bring prestige to the Goblin. You can probably already guess how Goblins go about choosing their clothes — they put together the uncured and ragged skins of the creatures they have killed. The Goblin tribes themselves are led by their Matriarchs (elder females) who are the weapon-makers and status-decreers of the Goblin race. The best fighters are also considered leaders who hunt, fight, and cook.

More than a dozen Goblin tribes used to roam in the mountains that surround the Valley. With a shortage of food, the Goblins were forced to move down into the Valley itself. Due to their reckless ways of fighting, the Goblins have since been reduced to three tribes: the Red Fangs, the Black Claws, and the Blue Death.
