Last week we reported the news that Red Barrels' Outlast 2 would be banned in Australia after failing to pass through the country's ratings board. The news caused a stir on TT and elsewhere in the gaming industry.
It seems the story now has a happy ending. According to Australian gaming site, Press Start, Outlast 2 has passed its classification review, meaning the ratings board has rescinded their previous ban and issued their most adult rating, R18+, to the first-person horror. The rating was added back in 2013 to suit situations exactly like this one, so the ban was a bit surprising initially.
In a brief statement to Press Start, Red Barrels confirmed the news:Outlast 2 has been rated R18+ by the Classification Branch in Australia and will be released 26th April 2017. There will be only one version of Outlast 2 available worldwide.
We're unsure if this means that the game won't need to undergo any edited content to meet the ratings board's demands or if this means that the game will be edited and released worldwide in its new version. With that said, Outlast 2 will now release in full worldwide on Playstation 4 on April 26th.
