Weekend Announcements March 10-12th Part 2: Cartoon Network, VR Titles and More

By Rebecca Smith, 2 months ago
Welcome to the second part of the weekend's announcements. Without further ado:

Mulaka

The Sierra Tarahumara landscapes of Northern Mexico are on display as players experience the true life of a Sukurúame, a shaman who is believed to be able to interact with gods. The gods consider the human race to be a disappointment and want to destroy it so that they can start afresh. The Sukurúame must gain the support and trust of the demi-gods if he's to save humanity. Explore the 3D world, solve puzzles, collect herbs, fight soul-eating foes and run with the amazing abilities of the Tarahumara race. The title is coming to unspecified consoles later this year.

OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes Title

OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes is a new animated TV series on Cartoon Network. Set in Lakewood Plaza, a mall for heroes, the series follows K.O. and "his cool crew of friends" as they constantly try to impress each other with their abilities. They're also trying to overcome the problems caused by the evil foe Lord Boxman as he tries to destroy the plaza. Why does this matter to TrueAchievements? Well, Cartoon Network has teamed up with developer Capybara Games to produce an integrated console title based on the new TV franchise. Little is known about the game but it will be an "action brawler with RPG elements". It will arrive in autumn and hopefully those consoles will include Playstation 4.

Pankapu

In this tribute to 90s platforming/action games, the second of PLAYDIUS' three titles, players assume the role of the titular Pankapu. Djaha'rell is a child who was once troubled by a tragic incident and this tiny warrior has been chosen by The God of Dreams to rid Djaha'rell's Dreamworld of the Nightmare invasion. The game tells two parallel stories, one set in the Dreamworld and another set in reality. There will also be plenty of secrets and treasures to find throughout the level. The game will arrive on Playstation 4 later this year.

Reborn VR

The third of Time of Virtual Reality's titles is possibly the most mysterious of the three. The first-person action title puts players in the shoes of ancient warriors who have been resurrected for the sole purpose of fighting alien robots. Using Playstation Move, players will be able to freely use their laser blade to attack and block the enemy. You can even dice them up into small pieces if you're feeling particularly sadistic. The game will be released on Playstation VR this year.

Rise & Shine

This title was let out of the bag earlier than developer Super Awesome Hyper Dimensional Mega Team anticipated. Advertised as a "true think and gun", the game combines elements of shoot 'em ups, bullet hell and puzzle platformers. Titular character Rise lives on Gamearth, a world inhabited by classic video game characters. The problem is that the Space Grunts from planet Nexgen have decided to invade. Alongside companion Shine, Rise needs to stay alive and stop the invasion. Confirmed via the briefest of Twitter posts, this game will arrive on Playstation 4 in April.

Save The Light

Not only has PLAYDIUS announced multiple titles this week, so has Cartoon Network. This time it's the turn of established TV series Stephen Universe to get a tie-in console game, the sequel to 2015's mobile title Attack the Light. Written by the show's creator Rebecca Sugar, the story has been designed to be an entry point into the franchise so prior knowledge of the prequel and the show is not required. A mysterious warrior has arrived in Beach City and he has stolen a powerful weapon. Steven and the Crystal Gems must embark on a magical mission beyond Beach City, battle an army of creepy creatures and stop the Prism-thief if they're to Save The Light. The RPG combines elements of real-time and turn-based combat and players can customise their party with many of the show's characters. The game will be released this summer on Playstation 4.

Shred It!

As Playstation only released a teaser trailer for this title, I guess we're already supposed to know about it? Well, seeing as we don't, this endless runner tasks players with collecting leaves and performing awesome tricks on their snowboards whilst doing so. Avoid environmental hazards and wandering wildlife if you're to grab yourself a high score. Choose from brother and sister Parker and Jessie; Frappe the cool snowdude; Rufus, a pup who's bark can scare away any critter; Cosmo the space cadet; the crazy Pengz gang; and Erik the board store owner. The title will be arriving on Playstation 4 in the future.

sU and The Quest for Meaning

sU is the final PLAYDIUS title to be revealed. Details on this title are scarce, but developer Guillaume Bouckaert has managed to create an endless platformer that takes place on a single screen. As usual, players must get as high a score as they can, but the score itself is a puzzle. You'll need to find meaning in your own actions and in the ever-changing environment. Will you rise to the occasion when the game is released on Playstation 4 later this year?

The Caligula Effect (Vita)

Kishimai High School is a blissful place where students enjoy performances by "the intoxicating virtual idol µ". While most are content to live in this existence, some students uncover the horrible truth that there entire life is a lie. The perfect world is actually called Mobius and it's a virtual reality that us was created and ruled by µ. The player assumes the role of a student who has discovered the truth and they must join the Go-Home Club if they're ever to escape. Unfortunately, the brainwashed student Digiheads, nefarious musicians, µ and even their innermost traumas stand in their way. Released in Japan in June 2016, the game will arrive on Vita in North America and Europe almost a year later on May 2nd.

The Count Lucanor

Hans was a poor boy who lived near the woods with his mother. The family was so poor that they couldn't afford presents or sweets for Hans' birthday, so he decided to leave home for good. Hans walked into the woods but soon became scared, so he tried to return home. However, his progress was blocked by a kobold, who Hans followed to a castle. The kobold promised great wealth if only Hans could pass a simple test: guessing the kobold's name. Now that he is trapped in the castle, Hans' adventure combines mystery, fantasy and horror as he becomes the new Count Lucanor. Every decision counts and every clue brings Hans closer to solving the puzzle, but there are different endings and many ways of solving those puzzles. Will you become rich beyond your wildest dreams when the game releases for Playstation 4 and Vita?

The Persistence

Playstation VR suits the survival horror genre incredibly well and developer Firesprite is preparing another such title. The Persistence is a research vessel that was sent to study a collapsing star, but an experiment has triggered a catastrophic failure. In an attempt to put the mission back on track, the ship's computer attempts to resurrect the deceased crew, but this ends in disaster when process errors transform them into mutants instead. The player assumes the role of a crew member who was in cryosleep at the time of the disaster and who escaped death by pure luck. You must try to get the engines back online and escape the nearby black hole. Stem cells will help to enhance your character and stay alive for longer but every time that you die, you'll awaken to find a new procedurally-generated ship, so no playthrough will ever be the same.

Here ends the announcements! Stay tuned tomorrow for the rest of the news to emerge from the weekend.
