SMITE Double Everything This Weekend With a New Patch Next Week

By Kelly Packard, 1 year ago
Before diving into the latest patch, let's get it out of the way — SMITE is hosting a Double Everything event this weekend. Starting on Friday, March 17th at 5 a.m. EDT, earn double worshipers, XP and favor until Monday, March 20th at 5 a.m. EDT. Why? It's St. Patrick's Day, of course, which is apparently Janus's favorite holiday, judging by the artwork:

Consoles are scheduled to receive the latest patch, already live on PC, this coming week. When there are no delays, patch days are typically on Tuesdays, so March 21st is a good date to watch. Players will be able to try their hand at the newest god, Cernunnos, enjoy the usual plethora of added skins, avatars and emotes, and check out the latest balance changes to the third-person MOBA.

The Horned God Cernunnos is the second addition to the Celtic pantheon, following The Morrigan. He's a Hunter who can make use of the four different seasons to apply different effects to his basic attacks, like bonus lifesteal, bonus damage, a debuff or a slow. As new gods always do, he'll have a recolor at launch with Samhain Cernunnos.

Passive – Heavy Glaive

Cernunnos wields a glaive as a weapon. His Basic Attacks deal additional damage to all enemies in melee range while he is throwing it.

Shifter of Seasons

Cernunnos imbues his glaive with the power of the 4 seasons. Activating this ability rotates him through 4 different bonuses to his Basic Attacks.

– Spring Growth: Bonus Physical Lifesteal

– Summer Heat: Bonus Damage

– Autumn Decay: Debuff for 5s

– Winter Chill: Slows for 1s

Bramble Blast

Cernunnos fires a thorn forward in a line that deals damage and roots a single enemy it hits. When it hits an enemy, a wall, or reaches max range it explodes dealing damage and spawning an area of thorns at the location. This area deals damage every .5s and slows enemies inside it persisting for 5s.

Horn Charge

Cernunnos charges forward, damaging and crashing through all types of enemies.

The Wild Hunt

Cernunnos selects an area where The Wild Hunt will begin. After a 1s casting time, enemies in the area will be damaged and polymorphed into wild boars. Polymorphed targets are Silenced and Disarmed. Polymorph is not affected by diminishing returns.
If you're a cosmetics collector, here is the lowdown on the latest skins. Twisted Metal The Morrigan and Dreadful Doll Izanami have been added to the Gothic Chest, a 55 item chest with rolls going for 200 gems. Loki Charms Loki — he's magically delicious — a St. Patrick's Day-themed skin has also been added. It's voiced by Joshua Ovenshire, or Jovenshire, of Smosh Games. It'll be available in the Spring Holiday Chest for 400 gems. In the same chest, the Breezy Chibi Kukulkan skin is being added.

There is also NRG 2017 Champion Chronos, a celebratory skin honoring NRG's SMITE World Championship win this year. It's available for 400 gems for now but watch out — after a time period it'll probably be going back in the Divine Chest along with all the other SWC skins. Pro League Bellona, the latest skin for the Warrior, has a random chance to drop during Twitch streams to players who have linked their SMITE account to their Twitch account. Lastly, Kuzenbo now has his mastery skins.

If you want a briefing on balance, Flickering Ritual is seeing another nerf in the form of a cost increase. Bancroft's Talon is getting buffed again. Hastened Fatalis and its tree item Fatalis are receiving nerfs along with Heartseeker. In terms of gods, one of this season's top picks for Hunter, Apollo, is seeing nerfs. Second-to-newest god Kuzenbo is getting some sizable buffs. Healing has been slightly nerfed in the sense that Rod of Asclepius no longer allows players to heal through 100% antiheal, like Serqet and Odin's ultimate abilities. For the full details on the balance changes, check out the full patch notes here.

The last thing to note is a fan-favorite special event is being turned on for the Arena game mode. Did you miss the Underworld Arena event from "Escape From the Underworld"?

A new Bonus Round has been added to the Arena! After each Arena match ends, teams will be taken to the center of the coliseum, surrounded by lava, and given 60 seconds for a final team fight. Be wary, as Gods who find themselves thrown into the lava will be trapped in the Underworld forever!

The team that wins the Bonus Round will be awarded additional Worshipers, as well as their normal match rewards. Winning or losing the Bonus Round does not affect the outcome of the normal Arena match.

Crushing tendrils pull the Arena through the Earth and into the Underworld. Surrounded by lava, lost souls, and darkness, the gods fight to free themselves from Hades' grasp.
Again, Tuesday is probably the date to look out for the patch. Until then, enjoy the Double Everything event that starts on Friday. Since SMITE's anniversary is this upcoming week, be on the lookout for another event that may be ongoing in addition to the Underworld Arena game mode.
