Oddworld Inhabitants has fans of the series waiting with bated breath to see the latest tip or reveal from their alternate reality game that is slowly unraveling the mysteries of Oddworld: Soulstorm
The alternate reality game goes like this: Inhabitants, developer of the upcoming Soulstorm
, gives players cryptic hints that they must work to decode. In the past, the ARG has required the dissection of audio files, substitution ciphering, piecing together tattered images, figuring out passwords for locked zip files and more. Sometimes Ed Mudokon or the mysterious group The Spirit of 1029 might step in with a helpful tweet. When the community does well, Inhabitants might step in to clarify an image further, or in this case, give them a video.
The short, four-second teaser expands on the third photo that the community had unlocked earlier this month
None of the images or videos seem very hopeful for the fate of the Mudokons — in the first image
, they seemed to be oppressed in a work line; in the second image
, a Mudokon was bound to a chair and Ed pleaded for help via his Twitter account
. He later gave us the bad news that his friend, Asset 98, had been taken away and was, in Ed's words, "terminated."
Terminated by whom? Or what? What is happening to the Mudokon? Is there anything we can do to stop it?
The third photo unlocked via the ARG
We'll know more as the ARG continues and when Oddworld: Soulstorm
launches. There is no release date and it has yet to be confirmed for PS4, or any platforms, for that matter. But maybe, just maybe, there is still hope for the Mudokons.
