Weekend Headlines Feb 17-19th Part 1: Announcements

By Rebecca Smith,
Here we are again to bring you another roundup of the news that we missed over the weekend. So much news appeared this weekend that we've split the article into three parts. In this part we have a multitude of announcements, not least in part thanks to a news event held by NIS America. Take a look at what you would otherwise have missed:

We begin with the debut title from a new studio: Almighty: Kill Your Gods. All men are supposedly equal, but this isn't always the case. When it comes to Gods, this especially isn't true. The player character has died at the hands of Gods with hidden agendas. Unlike others who leave this world, unfinished business means that you are reborn with new powers. By building a shrine and collecting resources, you will attract your own followers. But this isn't enough... you want revenge. Whether you choose to do this alone or whether you choose to team up with other players is up to you. The title will be released on Playstation 4.

Baboon! was released on the Vita two years ago. The game was received well enough for developer Relevo Games to consider porting the title to Playstation 4. Players use bombs to propel the titular Baboon further upwards to collect as many bananas as possible, avoid traps and kill enemies.

The first of several NIS America titles, "retro Action RPG" Cladun Returns: This is Sengoku! (Vita) will be coming to western regions. Set in Japan's Sengoku Era, the story takes place in the land of Arcanus Cella. Here, the souls of the dead gather as they wait to be reincarnated, but some have unfinished business preventing them from doing this. Players will assist these souls on their journey to real-world locations in feudal Japan where they will battle monsters and avoid traps in extremely dangerous dungeons. The latest in the Cladun series, and the first to be released on Playstation 4 and Vita, will be released on June 6th, 2017 in North America and on June 9th in Europe.

While not an NIS title, Deemo: The Last Recital (Vita) is another Japanese title that will be making its way to western regions on Playstation Vita. The rhythm title tasks players with keeping up with piano melodies as they witness a "heart-wrenching urban fantasy story". Since its release on mobile, the game has received a different story, fully animated cutscenes, character voice-overs, Duet Mode, and many new songs. The game will be released this spring.

Eekeemoo is an Eskimo ninja. His arch nemesis, the Dark Shard, has stolen the Star Heart and has captured Eekeemoo's friends. To rescue Yum Yum, Nim and D-Bot, Eekeemoo must enter the Dark Shard's toxic lair, fight off the undead hoards, and release the possessed kings by smashing the deadly mind-altering splinters. You'll travel through four realms, each of which has multiple levels, puzzles and tasks. You can do all of this when Eekeemoo - Splinters of Dark Shard is released for Playstation 4 next week.

You may have already have heard of Insurgency or Day of Infamy, both PC titles by New World Interactive. Their latest title, Insurgency: Sandstorm, will also be coming to consoles. While the shooter is inspired by real life events, the story takes place in a fictional Iraqi village and features a fictional female protagonist. Hidden behind closed doors, she is enslaved by insurgents alongside her sister and several other young girls. By chance she escapes and enlists with a rebel faction that fights against the insurgents. However, the discovery of a piece of information leads her to embark on a personal quest with three companions, but is this a wise decision? You'll find out when the game is released on Playstation 4 next year.

Remothered: Tormented Fathers is the first chapter of the survival horror saga Remothered. Focusing more on the psychological aspect of horror, players assume the role of Rosemary Reed who arrives at the house of retired Dr. Felton, a gentleman who is afflicted with a mysterious disease. She's investigating the disappearance of the man's daughter, Celeste, but Rosemary feels like this is just the start of a larger problem — a terrible massacre. What is Celeste's real identity, what link does she have to a fanatical cult of cloistered nuns, and will Rosemary ever extract the truth from Dr Felton and his wife, Arianna? You'll find out later this year when the game is released on Playstation 4.

River City Melee: Battle Royal Special is the latest instalment in the Kunio-kun franchise. The fighting title features an upgraded version of the fighting mechanics that were found in River City Super Sports Challenge ~All Stars Special~. Developer H2 Interactive has even consulted with the developer behind the Blazblue series to try to improve the mind game and balance of the fighting experience. The title will arrive in the west on Playstation 4 on March 28th.

First revealed as Samurai Warriors: Sanada Maru, Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada is a new adventure based on the Sanada Clan, a group of warriors from the Sengoku Era in Japan. They believed in survival at all costs and fought to ensure that the Sanada name would continue through future generations. Patriarch Masayuki Sanada joins the Samurai Warriors franchise for the first time and players begin with his first battle. Follow the clan as they become powerful lords and the samurai Yukimura Sanada is born. Players then follow his journey from boyhood to claim the title of “The Crimson Demon of War”. The title will be released on May 23rd, 2017 in the west but only on Playstation 4. The PS3 and Vita versions will not be westernised.

The Silver Case is a remaster of SUDA51's first ever title, inspired by classic adventure and visual novel titles. The player character is a member of a Special Forces Unit known as "Republic". A serial killer is on the loose and he/she has left a trail of murders in their wake. Detectives feel like they have identified the perpetrator - Kamui Uehara, who is a legendary and uncaptured serial killer who was responsible for the assassination of several government officials 20 years previously. The problem is that nobody knows who (or what) Kamui really is, let alone whether he has really returned. When the game is released on Playstation 4, it will have two brand new chapters that serve as a conclusion to the game. It will be released in North America on April 18th and in Europe on April 21st.

Free-to-play MMORPG Skyforge is making its way to the Playstation 4. Players protect their home planet Aelion from invasions from other alien civilizations. Using the gift of immortality, players can use powerful magic and technology to help in their quest. When the game arrives on PS4, it will include a years worth of additional enhancements and content, 14 different classes and combat mechanics that players "won’t come across in just any other MMO". The game will be arriving this spring.

Slime-san is a platformer that features the titular blob of slime. One day he was minding his own business in his peaceful forest home, but his life was turned upside down when a giant worm decided that he made a tasty meal. There's only one way that Slime-san can avoid a horrible fate from the approaching wall of stomach acid — jump, slide and slime back the way that he came. The rather giant worm makes Slime-san tackle 100 levels in a "unique 5-colored, pixelated world". So far the title is only confirmed for "consoles", but we'll let you know if that includes Playstation.

The second NIS America title to be announced was Tokyo Tattoo Girls (Vita), coming to Vita some time this year. The strategy title depicts Tokyo after a calamity has decimated the city's population and the survivors have been cordoned off from the rest of the world. The city is now divided into 23 wards, each of which is ruled by a group known as the Kumi. The only way to ever escape the city is to defeat all 23 Kumi and, luckily, some of the survivors find themselves with new powerful abilities that have been bestowed upon them through colourful tattoos...

Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle is NIS America's third title. Described as a "3D versus bullet-hell game", players take control of one of nine possible Touhou characters who must eliminate their opponent. Use bullet-hell patterns, melee attacks or spell cards to defeat them while performing dashes, double-jumps, and mid-air dashes to avoid their attacks. The game will be arriving for Playstation 4, Playstation VR and Vita this summer.

Ultimate Chicken Horse is one of those titles that makes you pause out of curiosity. Already released on PC, UCH is a "family-friendly party platformer" that has been inspired by the schoolyard game of H.O.R.S.E.. Players build the levels as they play, but they must find the perfect balance between making a level that's too difficult for their friends and one that is too difficult for the player to beat themself. Place traps, gadgets and platforms to build the ultimate creation on Playstation 4

When VizionEck was first announced, it was billed as a first-person shooter unlike any other. Part first person ahooter and part puzzle adventure, it had a rather confusing premise. It was so confusing, in fact, that developer VizionEck decided to pull the two different aspects of the game apart. Now, will be released as the "world's first cube combat game". Now purely an FPS where strategy and reflexes are more important than aiming, the game should release later this year and will benefit from free DLC after release. After this title, the puzzle platformer VizionEck Adventure will be released with thousands of puzzles.

Fully Illustrated has created a variety of titles for mobiles, tablets and PC, but they are yet another studio developing for consoles for the first time. Their side-scrolling beat 'em up takes players on an exploration of ancient British history and lore. In 120 AD, the Roman Empire had just seized control of the south part of Brittania. Now, they needed to march northwards so that they could conquer the rest of the island. Players assume the role of Caradoc, a guardian that belongs to the northern tribes that are aiming to stop the Roman Invasion. However, he has a power that he does not know about. Only when his tribes take on the might of the 9th Legion's 5000 men will he realise this gift. Wulverblade will be released for Playstation 4 later this year.

Action RPG is the final new title to be announced from NIS America, and the final title of the weekend. Protagonist Adol finds himself stranded on a cursed island after a shipwreck. Together with other survivors, he forms a village and challenges the beasts that already roam the island's abandoned ruins. For reasons unbenownst to him, he also dreams of a blue-haired maiden called Dana who lives in an unknown world. Will Adol be able to unravel the mysteries of both the island and his dream? While only released on Vita in Japan right now, the game will arrive in the west on Playstation 4 too this autumn. Japan will receive the PS4 version in May.

Stay tuned for part 2 where we go through all of the trailers!
