PermalinkJune, In summary
June had a ridiculous amount of games I wanted to play! Probably more than any I remember in the past... which ofc means I didn't get around to playing them all laugh

Firstly, I played a fair bit of Apex Legends and FFXIV to catch up on the Stormblood content ahead of Shadowbringers release, though these are't new games. I never even got fully caught up in time for Shadowbringers, but... ahem... I was only a ‘bawhair’ off!

1) Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
Suffice to say I was looking forward to this one, but at the same time I was sceptical. Kickstarter games are risky to be sure and you never quite know what the finished product will look like. Sure, Iga has proven his worth as a developer, but he had the backing of Konami.

Could he do it without Konami? At a cost of £35 it may very have been a waste of money, with the only signal it might be good being the Curse of the Moon is good.

So I started it… low and behold it was good smile. I played for a few hours, really enjoying it. It pulls heavily from several of Igavania’s with its own little spin as you would expect.

Then, I got hit with the dreaded 1.02 patch, which meant I had to restart the entire game from scratch. Luckily, I enjoy it so it wasn’t ‘too’ much of a chore to get back to where I was the first time round. The really annoying thing however is that had I gotten all my hours in a single playthrough, I would have beat the game by now.

The game has some janky elements to it but overall a great game that I will be going back to this month. It isn’t going to dethrone AoS, but it is a solid game and well worth a play. It is getting 13 free DLC’s as well, so plenty of fun to come toast

2) Jackbox.tv
Honestly the thing I find most strange is that the year got to the end of June before I played this. Was there really no Jackbox for half a year??

Anyways, not too much to say on this one. Jackbox has been the same for years and as always it was a great night and a lot of fun.
Jackbox 6 is out in Fall 2019, so no doubt I will be returning to play that on launch day.

Bear in mind all my TT’ers that Jackbox is Free to Play and a great laugh, so if anyone wants to join us when Jackbox 6 comes out, feel free to hop on have a laugh with us!

3) Mordhau
This game really wasn’t on my radar, but damn is it a good time. Just one of those no holds barred fun games. Try going an entire match without something stupid and hilarious happening I dare you wink

I will keep jumping into this game every now & then for a if I want to just relax with some mindless combat. Triternion Games seem to be really good devs as well and I don’t think they anticipated the game being as successful as it has been, so I think we will see a lot of content added to the game over time smile

4) Song of the Deep
I booted up and did the tutorial area to see what I thought. Seems like it might be decent. I get heavy ITSP vibes from this one (ITSP is an absolute hidden gem for anyone who is interested toast)

I will go back to this, but honestly, I have no idea when. I am nowhere near managing to get through my games as it is redface

July plans
July plans are pretty simple this month. Strangely, Bloodstained is the only SP game I will be playing this month shock

I shall be doing a bunch of FFXIV, DQB2 & Season 2 of Apex (which I am really enjoying as they added basically everything that was on my season 2 wishlist, with the exception of Solo and Duo queue)

July will also have a fair amount of potential game-time taken up by my usual July commitments. I don’t play much on weekdays, then make up for that at the weekend, but I work more weekends during the summer months than I do other times of year, plus in July I take my niece away for a weekend and have both a mother and sister birthday that usually ends up being a package deal and event toast

Final Thoughts
Overall it was a good month of gaming. Though I admit I really never managed to get a lot done that I had wanted to get done redface;

1) I bought Cadence of Hyrule day one and was really looking forward to playing it, but as yet I haven’t even booted it up!
2) I wanted to be ready for Shadowbringers launching, which I am still not, but at least now I am only about an hour from the end of the launch Stormblood main questline.
3) I never even bought CTR. I probably won’t bother with this one for quite some time now and get on a big sale as I’m too busy

Lastly, I read what is now one of my favourite books ever in June. It should be noted I basically exclusively read non-fiction (the only exception being fiction that it is written AS IF it is non-fiction laugh)

The book is called “The Heart and the Fist”. I really wasn’t expecting much going in, but turned out to be a really enjoyable and interesting read smile

JAdamGilman Good read. Lots of gaming to do, but of course we never have the time we want to give it.

Tell us more about “The Heart and Fist”. I read a bit of everything and I’m currently reading “a Clash of King’s”. I wasn’t too happy with the way the show ended so I’m currently reading the books.

Slayer1189 The Heart and the Fist is basically an autobiography of the life of Eric Greitens, who has led an interesting life to say the least.

To give a super short summary, he comes from an incredibly standard background, got a scholarship into Oxford, competed in varsity boxing, then travelled the world involved in some of the key humanitarian projects of the 1990's, before joining the SEAL teams and eventually setting up and running his own non-profit.

All of the above doesn't really spoil the book as you kinds know the framework going in.

Plenty of people have books about their interesting lives though... I guess what set this one apart for me is he really gives a lot of detail on his thoughts and growth throughout the experiences. For me personally, I was constantly imagining similar situations and thought processes I have gone through in my own life so I really felt like I could relate. I would never join military in an offensive capacity, but I still got his reasoning and learned from the book. If you ever read it I hope you enjoy it as much as I did smile

As for "A Clash of Kings", I haven't read any of the Song of Ice and Fire and am not likely to due to it being fiction, but I have seen all the seasons of the show. I agree with you that it could have ended better and am dumbfounded that HBO did not take George R.R Martin's input for the final season. Some of the characters are great though and I tend to like a show if the characters are good, so I still enjoyed it overall.

Hope you enjoy the books and ol' Georgey boy actually finishes them before he drops dead! He sure is slow at getting them out laugh

JAdamGilman Sounds like a great read. I will definitely put that on books to read list. It’s actually set up on a PowerPoint right behind the games to play slide. Yes, I’m that guy.

The first book was excellent, kind of slow at times due to the accuracy of the show in comparison. I just started the 2nd book so I really have no thoughts on it yet.

While the last season was extremely rushed I find the overall series as an excellent source of entertainment. Without spoiling anything, I assumed the fate of the major three but hate how it was built up for one of the characters. I seen it coming but I hoped for better progression.
