So in my last blog I outlined my older games and what i was going to get cracking on to clear a few of them out of the way. And i did start well, i finished off the story of Heavy Rain...and then i kinda stopped
. The story had my attention until the killer was revealed, then i thought it was dumb. I will go back to it to try and get the other endings and make the opposite choices, but i was disappointed.
The other thing that stopped me was Fifa. This came as a great surprise to me, as i wasn't expecting to like it as much as i do. My son asked for it in the recent sale, and i had a money off voucher for Argos (other games retailers are available) so I bought it, and...well, i love it. He loves it too, but then he's only 7 so he'd love anything. When i was seven i was playing Erik the Viking and other text adventure games - which, for those of you too young to remember, went a bit like this:
Imagine a black screen with the following line at the bottom:
"
You come to a tree, what do you do?"
And unless you typed in the exact response the game required,
nothing would happen"climb tree"
"
You cannot"
"cut down tree"
"
You cannot"
"poop on tree" (hey, sue me, i was 7)
"
You cannot"
And so on. The idea of a Fifa or lego game would have blown my tiny mind back then - i guess kids today demand more. But Fifa is good. Ultimate team especially. The thrill of opening packs is wondrous. I touched on this in a status a few weeks ago, but I used to see Fifa points on sale in the shops for up to £80, and wonder who on earth would be buying them...i can see why people do now - i never will, and my son knows better than to try and buy them in-game, but if I was of a gambling mindset, I would be very tempted. It's taken me a month to get an 83-rated team with 92 chemistry (no doubt you've done it faster, but i'm not the best), and i still want more. The World Cup being on helps, as everyone enjoys the World Cup, right?
I did have to buy a few games that were on sale to ensure that the month wasn't totally 'wasted' playing Fifa, but I enjoyed both Late Shift and The Sexy Brutale - the former isn't really a game as such, and wasn't a very good movie either, truth be told, but it was an interesting experience. I thought The Bunker was better, if only because it featured some collectibles. The Sexy Brutale was much better, but i did need a guide for some of it, as some of the puzzles were tricky. I didn't think it was very sexy though. Also got Boggle, before i realised that no-one is online any more. So if any friends want to do the online trophies, let me know! Even if you're not my friend, let me know!
So am i going to go back to my older games? Yes, yes i am. As soon as the footy wears thin.
