Do you remember the games you used to love?Permalink
I had to sort out most of my old consoles recently because of moving house, and the one I want to talk about is the one where I found all these digital save files. Just scrolling through the files brought back so many memories I wondered if anyone else felt the same way about these games.

Some of them I am just in shock about how many hours I spent with them and have forgotten about them now... so I thought it would be nice to just take a moment and remember them for what may be the last time.

The list is in no particular order other than being the order they appear on my memory card.

Linkx41 PSP has an epic library, I'm still discovering hidden gems!

Retroclank Odd, random game, but an early Playstation gem that stuck with me ever since I played it: Space Griffon VF-9...man, I loved that game. Poured some hours into that one, I did. First-person mech game...at the time, the drop distance for the Playstation wasn't the best, at least early on, so you could only see about 10 feet in front of you, but there was just something about the game that felt epic.

Going even further back...Sewer Shark for the Sega CD. Frustrating game until I finally learned how the navigation system worked. Fully FMV, which was popular at the time, a silly premise, and a soundtrack that was awesome at the time...now, after watching a runthrough on YouTube recently, I wonder how my ears weren't bleeding back then.

I could go on...but maybe I'll save those for another blog post.

MonkeyBrad91 I have no idea what 99% of those are. Guessing not putting the names next to them was a conscious decision?

Chijatsu I do understand the length of the RPGs, but damn, Parasite Eve (3rd Birthday, if i am not mistaken) for 121h. Holy cow. It's only a few games that I have played for that long. But never knew Parasite Eve could last that long :O

Prem-aka-Prince Hi everyone, sorry for the late reply, thanks so much for reading and commenting. Really makes me glad I took the time to put it together instead of just thinking it.

Link - Yeah, I often think of PSP as a minor failure, but when I look back at these games I realise that I was fortunate, it gave me plenty of good times!

Retroclank - Wow, I've never heard of any of those. Your description of both sounds like they are interesting if a little bit cringe-worthy, but the name Space Griffon is just awesome enough that it can't be lived up to no matter what's in the game, wouldn't you say? laugh

MonkeyBrad - yeah it was deliberate, for that 'ah I remember that one!' like Chijatsu had below. Admittedly a lot of them are largely ignored Portable spinoffs, but aside from a few games in the list that have no real raison d'être, I would say these are remarkable games that I'm really glad I played.

Chijatsu - 3rd Birthday was anAction RPG, with an insane amount of content - it was truly a console RPG on a portable. 3D graphics, FMV cutscenes, and deep split-second gameplay (with dodging and teleporting). Endless unlocks, rewards for replaying levels, multiple difficulties, NG+... really deserved way more praise than it got. It's such a shame it'll probably never come back for a console follow up, but the story was so brilliant that I'm not sure it could be topped anyway.
