PermalinkE3 reflection and what I've been up to
So here we are again, at every gamers favourite time of the year, E3. Personally, for me, I think it's been another great year for Sony. The conference was non-stop trailers and to my surprise didn't focus primarily on VR. I appreciated this a lot as going into E3 I was scared that Virtual Reality would be the next big step going forward for Sony, but I'm happy to see that they're treating it as more of an expansion to the games and experiences that are already available on Playstation. I would love to hear about what your favourite parts were of the main conferences and what announcements you are most looking forward to. For me, this has got to be up there:

I've been waiting for a new Spiderman game for so long and to hear that it's going to be a PS4 exclusive is even better. After playing the latest Ratchet and Clank reboot, I have no fear that Insomniac will make this game one to remember, especially after hearing that it's a completely unique story not tied to any other sources.

Another unexpected highlight for me came yesterday when I was writing an article for a game that beforehand I hadn't heard about. ABZÛ. When watching the trailer, I couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of the game, and knowing that it's coming from Giant Squid, the developers of Journey for those of you who don't know, fills me with excitement for what the game could entail. You can check out the trailer and my article here. I promise that's the only shameless self plug in this blog. wink

Anyway, onto what I've been up to in the world of gaming. I finally went back to grab the last few trophies in MONOPOLY Plus giving me another completion. The trophies in this game are ridiculously easy and it's a great party game to boot, so if you're into that kind of stuff, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a go. Speaking of party games, I started and completed Sportsfriends. It's not too great a game but again, if you have a couple of controllers handy, it's a very easy completion. I picked it up for free a while ago on the Instant Game Collection, so unless you got it from there, I probably wouldn't waste money on buying this one.

I also finally picked up this shiny new platinum:
Far Cry PrimalApex PredatorThe Apex Predator trophy in Far Cry Primal worth 271 pointsObtain all the Trophies.

It took me a few months of on and off playing, but I eventually got around to completing Far Cry Primal and I had a lot of fun with it. I am a bit tired of the Far Cry formula though so I'm not interested in picking up any other games like this for a while.

That's pretty much it for this time guys, so until next time, happy hunting! toast

TowerThirteen Agreed Spiderman game looks amazing. I'm happy it's not tied into a movie release. The last one I remember was Spiderman 3 which had some good parts but ultimately was disappointing and I think there was an easier, more kids oriented game last gen too.

I skipped Far Cry primal. I know it had a different setting but I had Far Cry fatigue halfway through #4. Maybe I'll bargain bin it down the line.

Kinect (twice) and Wii made me wary of gadgets. I may wait to see how VR pans out but agreed I'm glad they are treating it like a peripheral. Meanwhile Xbox took the kinect port off its new console...including Kinect at launch for an extra 100$ was such a dumb move

HelixNebula_x I didn't mind the Wii but yeah I'm still very wary of motion control peripherals as well. As for Spiderman, I really enjoyed Shattered Dimensions on the 360 but the last amazing game for me was Spiderman 2, the traversal of the city in that game was just phenomenal.

Super_Starlord The trailer for the new spiderman made it look pretty epic, cant wait to play that myself.

Congrats on the platinum - I really enjoyed Far Cry Primal until i finished the story. The grind to get enough skill points did become a bit of a chore towards the end. Overall good game though.

HelixNebula_x I actually ended up hitting the level cap during the story which was great, I was doing a lot of the skill point quests along the way as well to avoid the grindlaugh It was a pretty good game overall though, yeah

Slayer1189 I wasn't too impressed by Sony's E3 this year though i agree if they had focused on VR it would definitely have been worse!

With regards to VR, I certainly think it is a worthwhile investment and it is getting A LOT of R&D and attention from dev's at the moment, which I think will surely lead to attracting some bigger dev's and publishers in the future. Unfortunately, PSVR and Oculus are budget hardware with PSVR in particular not being up to scratch and IMO shouldn't be a focus for Sony.

The game that most grabbed me at E3 this year is We Happy Few, which we already knew a fair amount about but I have wanted it since it was announced. I have some consternation regarding the survival elements as that is a genre I have little affinity towards but the overall theme/atmosphere/setting of the game are right up my alley and look too good for me to pass up.

There were certainly other games at E3 I will end up playing. REmake 2 (my favourite Resi), Metal Wolf Chaos XD, KH3, Sekiro, Ori 2, Forza Horizon 4, Halo: Infinity etc.

Regarding Spiderman, I have a few concerns about it. I like Insomniac and really enjoy the R&C games, but so far what has been shown of Spider-man seems to borrow a lot of the combat etc from the Batman Arkham games. I really didn't like Arkham City (the only one i've played) very much so i'm unsure what to think.

Congrats on FarCry Primal. Much like the other commentors I have Far Cry fatigue and have been skipping them lately, though Primal does look decent smile
