Bloodborne Vs Dark Souls (
After reading this back it is more a kind of review of Bloodborne but i do discuss why i prefer Bloodborne to Dark Souls.)
What do you prefer?
I personally love Bloodborne much more than i did souls because souls i found more about being on the defence while Bloodborne was much more about being on the offence. Lets put it this way no one was playing Bloodborne with a shield in hand, instead they had a weapon. This allows players to parry like having a shield but in a much more fun way.
There were different types of weapons, you could have a pistol, a flame thrower or you could have a main weapon that when in secondary mode could not have a parry style weapon at all but instead made your attacks much faster. A great example of this is the Blade of Mercy which i loved and made it my level 10 weapon which is rare because there are only so many blood chunks in the game which are used to upgrade the final level of your weapons.
I also found Bloodborne easier to get in to than i did Dark Souls, Dark souls had me really lost a lot of the times and not having a clue where i should be at what level and i kept having to refer to videos which i do not like at all as it breaks immersion. This may make it sound that Bloodborne is linear but it's not, it just does a better job of directing you in the right path. Farming was a complete joy in Bloodborne also, i personally do not like grindy games where you need to farm stuff to be able to level up etc but not once did i feel that horrible thought of when you saved up a crap load of souls but in Bloodborne's case they are echos, blood echos which as i was saying if i lost them and even though you get the chance to pick them up again however if i lost both all my echo's and the chance to regain them i honestly did not mind going back to farm more because the game was just so satisfying that i was enjoying killing every monster whether it was a boss or a much lesser enemy in the game and each time i died it just made me feel more determined to get back out there and beat this guy who was getting in my way!
Now do not get me wrong Dark Souls is a good game too but for some reason both Demon Souls and Dark Souls on the PS3 just did not have me feeling the way i did with Bloodborne wanting to just keep on going. In Souls i had times where i just felt like i did not want to continue playing, i don't think i ever felt that with Bloodborne at all. Even when i finished the story i went and got The Witcher 3 but still i felt like playing Bloodborne all over again and i can tell you for me that is very very rare indeed. Usually with the games over the past say 8 years or so when i finish a game i am done with it and maybe if it was a really good one i would go back at a later date and finish it all over again, Mass Effect was an example of that and so was The Last of Us which has the most replays of any game i have bought in the past 10 years but it did not have me feeling like playing the campaign all over right after finishing it. It has been a week since i finished one of the story endings and still every day i feel like i want to go back and start a new game+ but because i bought The Witcher 3 and have started it i need to focus on that or if i stop playing i can see it being added to the pile of games that i never bothered finishing the campaign at all and i do not like that. I feel like i have wasted money if i do not at least finish the campaign at least. Trophies are not important to me so there is no point in looking at them as a way of seeing what i have 100% trophy wise but you could look at the the trophies that say i have completed the campaign at least, those i do care about because if i don't have them then the game is probably never going to be finished. Sometimes it can be about bugs in the game, for example Dragon Age: Inquisition is a game i was rather enjoying but it has quest breaking bugs that are stopping me from completing everything quest wise and i was making my first playthrough the one that i would do every side quest and main quests all in one go but i am still waiting on a fix, anyway that is not the point of this blog!
I would like to see some of the things from Bloodborne added to the souls games like the secondary weapon instead of a shield, that would be nice and i would like to see maybe some trick weapons added to the game, they are a lot of fun, you can create a very nice combo with the trick weapons in Bloodborne which i will add a video for those who have not played it to have a look at.
I am going to get Dark Souls 2 and 3 for the PS4 at some point but i will not lie, i would absolutely love either some story based DLC or a Bloodborne 2 over another Souls game. There is news of an "Expansion" coming to Bloodborne which to me sounds different than just DLC, usually expansion means a mix of many things being added such as more story, more weapons, more items and of course more FUN! So that aught to be good. I mean DLC could be anything such as just some new items, weapons or emotes etc but expansion if you look at the other games that title their extra content as expansions it usually means a lot more than just a few weapons etc so i am very excited to see what comes of that but i would personally LOVE IT if they were to bring out a Bloodborne 2.
So what do you think? Would you prefer a Bloodborne 2 over a Dark Souls 4? Are you hoping that Dark Souls 3 will have some things from Bloodborne in it such as the trick weapons so you can have maybe a bit of offence and defence in it?
So as i said i would post some videos about Bloodborne. BUT keep reading after the video, there is more.
First i will show you my favourite weapon "The Blade of MERCY!"
If you would like a lets play of the game to help you decide if you would like to buy the game i recommend this guys lets play which he focuses on the lore a lot trying to figure it out and explains things as he goes along. I would play an area on my own and finish it and then i would watch his video at night only if it was an area i had finished my self so that i was not getting any spoilers and even though i had done the area it was nice to hear this guys thoughts on its lore. I am not sure if you have heard of his channel "EpicNameBro" but he has a play list of him finishing the entire game which i really enjoyed watching so if you like lets plays i highly recommend this guy.
AGAIN more reading after the video
What else can i say? I mean i am totally shocked that there is only 2 other people on my friends list that own this game, i thought this was one of the games everyone wanted a PS4 for seeing as it is completely exclusive to the PS4. It's not a time based exclusive it will only ever be on the PS4 so i hope that a lot of people bought it giving them a reason to make another one because obviously console exclusives wont make as much as a game that is on all platforms. I really think you should buy this game, if you were not good at the souls games don't let that be a deterrent because like i say this game is much easier to get in to than the souls games, it without a doubt has much more of a fun factor to it, is it challenging? YES! BUT that is one of its greatnesses in this game because it really makes you want to play more and kick that bosses arse and my god when you do you feel totally hardcore! Also another reason to get it if you are worried about bosses is that you get the option to call for help, you use an item that when you play on online mode you can ring it, yes it's a bell and this starts co-op mode and you can work together to beat a really tough boss if it is giving you trouble and allows you to progress further in to the game. Speaking of online mode there is the option of offline mode which basically means you will not get any pesky intruders if you do not wish to play PVP but if you do like PVP then that is another reason to buy the game as you then have the option to invade other peoples game and steal their hard earned echos
. I also mentioned the NG+ which is yet another reason to get it because i promise you when you complete the game you will be wanting to start a NG+ so that you can work on maybe a different style the next time using a different set of weapons because i can't emphasise this enough that the weapons are just so god damn fun to play with and you will at least want to try them all out one way or another. I also should add that the graphics are very nice too, i know that they do not make a game great but there is nothing better than having a game that is already great by game play etc but having the added bonus of nice visuals!
So on that topic here is a video of all the weapons in the game with their move sets.
Oh and before i leave you with that i should add that there are optional dungeons that you can play in also that are a lot of fun but here is the video of the weapons.
I gave this game a 5/5 rating here on TT and it truly deserved it. If anyone has any questions about the game please feel free to ask and i will answer as best as i can.
So as usual, happy gaming everyone
(and buy this game
you will not regret it)
