Hello again, I'm back again with another blog which is not so damn angry this time.. just slightly annoyed.
Today I decided that I was going to purchase an Ouya (you can almost hear
TrueAchievements cheer in the distance) so off up town I went.
Getting up there I had to decide which of the two GAME stores in the city center I wanted to use, I elected for the one in the shopping center simply because I did not want to walk past the homeless guy and big issue guy who always seem to be next to the other GAME.
Upon entering game I bolted right for the Ouya display so when the spotty teenager who they had employed to pester people approached and asked what I was after he gave me a look of utter confusion as I muttered something about wanting a Sega mega drive. Once I cleared up what I was after(really, I was in front on the big Ouya stand and had one of those little sheets you take to the counter in my hand.. what was he expecting me to say) he left me to my own devices and went on to harass some older lady who could not decide what was better out of FIFA 08 and FIFA 14.
Managing to lose the kid I ventured to the counter and handed over my slip, the nice fellow behind the counter then goes into the glass cabinet behind him and grabs an Ouya. I pay for it, make a comment about how it was lighter than I was expecting and went on my merry way back home but not after stopping in Maplins to pick up a HDMI switcher box.
Upon getting home I bolted into my room where my set up and immediately unboxed my brand new Ouya, first noting that the seal was broke I just assume that was because it had been checked for security reasons. I pull the inner box out and disaster..
Fecking empty! You can imagine how my thought process went here, denial-rage-acceptance. Sitting down I looked at the clock and figured GAME would be shutting down for the day as it was around 5:10PM and I would not get back up there in time so I went in the chat room and had a little rant. A couple of the guys insisted that I gave them a call so I did, luckily someone picked up and upon a little investigating of the stock levels the manager reached the conclusion that I had been given the display units empty box and said if I could get up there before 6PM I could just get it swapped out.
What followed was a hasty(within the speed limits of course) ride up town on my bike, parking up and bolting it to GAME where I found the manager waiting for me who handed me a sealed Ouya and a £20 gift card as an apology along with assurances that the sales assistant would be taken out and shot with his family being invoiced for the bullet. Good guy and could not be more apologetic if he tried.
Getting home I unbox my Ouya for the second time and thankfully this time all was well in Castle Dimmock, my jimmies are serene now.
Lesson to be learned here kids, when you buy a new system check the security seals as you might just be getting a display box.
Till next time.
