Spikey and the backlog Month 1Permalink
cn_guide Monthly Summary VS THAT backlog...

Intro

I tried to make this template and blog post earlier in the month , however , I went from forgetting to publish, to , oops it's a bit late now, to , let's just do something next month. Which pretty sum's me up with getting plats too. Overall I'd say it was an uneventful month in terms of progress , making excellent progress in the wrong direction. More on that later!

Challenges
New : 3

Nexomon "VS" Ludvera (12% VS 39%)
FF:CC "VS" Ludvera (11.1% VS 11.1%)
Sleeping Dogs "VS" Ludvera ( 25% vs 6.7%)

Existing : 0

First month , so none existing, although technically Sleeping Dogs was the previous month , but shhhhhh.

Completed : 0

Total # of Challenges : 3

Progress Summary :

Made some progress on Sleeping Dogs, although it has been benched for the moment , Ludvera is going all in on Nexomon and FF:CC will be a co-op thing.

Short Term Games :

With an idea from Ludvera, I decided to 'focus' on 1-4 games , this way it gives a decent selection if one gets a bit stale or if i get burned out.

Nexomon , as it is probably the first challenge that will be completed , i will list this one first. Fun pokemon style game with a slightly warped sense of humour. Enjoying playing through and will continue the hunt for a shiny or two after writing this. Also noticed that Gc-Skinny has picked this up and is progressing through, Will post a challenge after or if I forget and they read this they can post one to me.

FF:CC, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, The actual co-op challenge that will be done probably after I'm done with Nexomon (probably will be after Ludvera) , as it is a remaster it has a nostalgic feel , although not playing the original not as much as it is for those that have.

Sleeping Dogs , the final of the current challenges , I want to progress through it a bit as I am soon at the point i was at when i played it on steam. I want to push further and at least see the story through.

Challenges aside I haven't fully decided on which game/s to focus on in the short run. More info later on though regarding why. So with no clue what to focus on besides challenges , i'll just make those my Short term games , although in future I'll try and add games that i feel I want to progress / complete between blog posts ( 1 month summary posts)

Long term Grind / Go-to games:

Recommendations

Rather than writing "Recommended by AK" on each of them , I'll just say here , the following are all recommended by AtsumaKarin -

Summary-

In terms of game selection here, seems to heavily be biased to platformers , are you really into them AK ? Or is it just what usually comes your way? I guess Trials is a platformer too.. As mentioned the ones I don't own i'll keep an eye out for in sales, although I'm guessing I may have to go through the effort at some point to put these games on my PS store wishlist ( web store) to be able to quickly glance if/when games i want go on sale. Sometimes they have price drops that aren't promoted in banners so some things fly under the radar.

Outro

If there are errors , it is because I'm writing this on my PC and don't have access to my PS4 currently to check library etc for accurate numbers for games added etc, also because I wrote this around Aug 5th , then edited, made a template , used some of the older relevant text , some of it may seem out of place or missing. Sorry.

Overall a pretty weak month except in the spending money on games to play "soon" department. Will do better next month , although , won't hold my breath seeming I just ordered a Vita , more on that soon.

Hoping to get at least a few plats and completions next month otherwise I may just admit defeat. Nay-saying aside, will for sure get a few plats done by the end of Sept.

If anyone reading has recommendations , suggestions to formatting or want to set up some friendly challenges, leave a comment below and I'll see what I can do toast

As always , Good luck with your own grinds and goals. cn_Xcn_guide

To blog or not to blog?..Permalink
.. That was the question for quite some time.

Warning : This post is 7200 Words / 40,000 Characters Long.. Sorry.

A Bit of background

Deciding on content was actually almost as tough as deciding the title and beginning to write. Firstly I am awful at phrasing and will often make a wall of text instead of letting people breathe with better grammar. Sorry about that. Also after writing this and going back , reading over etc, I'm awful at formatting , structuring and also consistency with creating breaks, but mostly , useless at knowing when to stop typing. So .. Sorry about all that too.

So this post will be about the current state of things regarding personal gaming and a list (a long one at this point) of backlogged games and devising some sort of plan to get through them.

While I do have an extensive backlog I don't think i'll ever be forgiven if I decided to get into the "quick plat" purchasing routine again, I started to on steam , I now own 2500 "games" on steam and probably won't ever play them , so I'm self conscious about falling down that rabbit hole again , especially with vita / region trophy lists available too. For now though I'll be plodding through my list when I can.

With that in mind a lot of my games are AAA and plenty are in fact jRPG's or ARPG's. Most will probably take 100hr to complete so with that it amplifies that backlog doom & gloom feeling even more. However , with comes great games comes great fan usage, we are all on the same boat mostly in that regard, however I play in a relatively small bedroom , so when the PS4 Pro goes 110% and pumps out heat and engages hover mode, it ruins the fun for me. Even with headphones on full I still can't drown out the noise and will end up with a headache faster than I earn my first few trophies, and thus , the game gets put into the backlog.

However, not all blame can lay on the PS4 , all things considered it is a remarkable machine , capable of great things ( even without 4k / HDR enabled) i'm still enjoying my time playing it and ditched my PC for it. I am to blame for probably half or more of my backlog , often stopping playing a new / recently bought title for a 'go-to' game that I can brainlessly play to pass time or not stress over because I know most of the game inside and out. Those games for me are Rocket League ( probably close to 5000 hours combined steam/PS4) and world of warships : Legends ( another 1000hr here easily) I enjoy these games , however , equally I hate them. They absorb so much of my time when I have my impending backlog staring me in the face with judgemental eyes.

With all that aside I will begin on what I decided to write on , which was the backlog. I want to have a place somewhere that I can refer to at a glance and (hopefully) see progress being made. The recent bean dive helped move some of my PS library onto the site , but there is still plenty more, adding PSNow and EA Access to the list also doesn't do me any favours.

Recently I played TERA with @Ludvera and it was enjoyable regardless of the quirks the game has (90% dungeons forced solo in an MMO?) and it got me thinking , instead of competing to finish a game first , what if people helped each other clear their backlogs. An example would be @Cloud-side mentioning they have Dragon Quest XI on their backlog and they want to play it. I do too, so why not work on it at the same time? Sure we could race, but sometimes you're at different progress points, one person has more time than the other or is simply better. So racing would be demotivating for the other person to a degree (@Ludvera is far better than me at most games tbh.. ) , but just going through the game and getting to talk about the game and adding +1 to your Plat list and -1 from the backlog is a "win" for both people really, even more so when you consider it is doubled (or more? ) when other people get involved.

So! With that in mind , feel free to "compete" with me on any and all games I own if you want to get through it together. Getting through the game will be better than a "win" in a race and a "win" can only really be if all people involved manage to reach their goal ( some may not want the plat and just wish to see the story through, online trophies and such aren't everyone's cup of tea or possible if the game is old) . However , as mentioned my PS is incredibly picky ( as am I because of it) about which games I can play at the moment ) PSNow games are mostly my focus due to being streamed and the Pro quietly enjoying the downtime. Will be acquiring the PS5 on release and enjoy the 4k / HDR glory in (hopefully) near silence. I will however try to honour any and all "challenges" regardless.

The dreaded backlog , split into categories that make no sense except to me in the moment I write them. Series , or Single titles ( I was going to split them into Genre but decided against that for now at least. ) The order isn't an indication of priority, but will be somewhat alphabetical , unless I add things later.

Outro

Keep in mind this isn't *every* game I own or have access to, but a collection of ones I want to play / try or think I would like. It also doesn't mostly include games I don't own or have access to , so plenty may be missing that I want to play that I didn't add because I didn't go through the store / wishlist / to-buy-on-a-sale-list. Being honest I skimmed over most of the PSNow list, not because most were bad, but because i'd probably try to play most of them.

Once the PS5 releases I probably / shouldn't have any excuse not to play through my backlog , unless it comes with its own teething compatibility issues, but for now , I'll say that I shouldn't have any excuse and I should start getting those AAA's cleared up at the very least.

Well. That's all. So glad I decided to use chromebook for this and not even try this on phone. Perhaps for the sake of whoever reads I probably should have to keep it shorter though... ( I actually wrote this , then went back and added more... but thankfully several hours later... I'm done... for now)

Thanks for (skim) reading , if there is a title/s missing or one/s you recommend please let me know , also as mentioned if you feel like doing a playthrough, I'll probably be happy to. Send a "challenge" and we can work through them together!
