They do provide Apex Legends free though, and the Axe, intro and quip are purely cosmetic. What is your view on Free to Play game monetisation? I know a lot of people who
really hate when companies charge £50 for a game, just to charge more for lootboxes (thinking Anthem, Black Ops 4, Overwatch etc) but even those people tend to be okay
with Fortnite, Apex, League of Legends etc charging, as they are free to play for a low barrier to entry and high player count, but need to make money from the game
IMO, they should allow you to earn all of those if you are a dedicated player. Not only 2 and force you to pay for the rest
I really dont understand why ppl pay money for cosmetics, they dont add anything to the game so why buy them?
Is it just to show off? because when i see ppl using them i dont think wow you look so cool, i think thats sad that you paid all that money for a cosmetic.
From what I have watched, a big issue with cosmetics is bullying in schools. If you just have the base skins, you get bullied apparently. So there is pressure there
@KF - Yeah I also prefer unlockables through play (especially if there is a level of challenge involved) but know a lot of people just prefer to buy them outright.
@Liquid - I pretty much agree here as well, I don't exactly think it is sad, but it is not impressive or cool and I certainly wouldn't be spending my own money that way!
As for the bullying aspect, that strikes me as bad parenting and poor life choices. Surely if you are young enough to be getting bullied for in game cosmetics, that means
you are either using your parents money or your own very limited money. It never has been and never will be a good idea to give bullies what they want, so by your parents
spending £100 for you to get the axe in Apex so you don't get bullied, they are signalling to you that you stop bullies by giving them what they want, so when they ask
for you lunch money, you should give them it. When they want you start smoking, have sex with them, etc, you should do it. Seems like a recipe for disaster IMO.
If the kid is using their own pocket money or money from a job, ofc they can spend it on whatever they want but I would say pacifying bullies is a poor life choice.
On the other hand, nowadays people get bullied for not having in-game cosmetics, years ago playing games at all was seen as weird. oh how the world has changed
sure apex legends is free but putting an item behind 24 lootboxes which you have to buy to even get the option to buy the axe for an additional 35 dollars is just wrong
funny enough there will be people stupid enough to do that though
Slayer - https://youtu.be/7S-DGTBZU14?t=1563 Link to where I learned about it. IMO, the whole video is worth a watch if you have an interest on the subject
KF - Watched the whole vid thanks for the link. I also watch all of the Yong Yea vids Ulven posts. It's certainly an interesting topic. At the end of the day, society is
driven by incentive structures (which I am utterly obsessed with) and I think over the next 10-20 years crafting incentive structures is going to become highly efficient
