While I was in the Grand Tetons last week, enjoying the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem whle persevering my TrueTrophies streak with snippets of Guacamelee, I was thinking a lot about the future. This includes the future of my personal trophy collection smile

At the time I was 31 Platinum Trophies away from #100 and the thought arose: What will my centennial Platinum Trophy be? I am simply not willing to let it be a random game from my backlog. It needs to be something poignant. Scrolling through my trophy list, I was reminded that my very first Platinum Trophy was for Final Fantasy 7.

clap BINGO! clap The Final Fantasy Remake is scheduled to launch March 3, 2020. How perfect would it be to come full circle with Platinum #100 by making it the remake of the game that gave me my very first platinum?

In order to make this goal a reality, I need to pick up 30 Platinum trophies in the next 250 days (having just finished Dragon Quest XI). In all of 2018 I picked up 26 Platinums (my PB for a single calendar year), which will not be good enough to be at 99 by March 3rd. Not wanting to buy a ton of games for easy Platinums; I started digging through my extensive backlog. I have put some of the ones I came up with in bold, asterisks mean I have some progress in the game. If any jump out to you, please leave a comment!

One of my favorite things about the school district that I work for is the outstanding coordinator of our science department. Every summer we bring hundreds of middle school kids to the Teton Science School in Wyoming USA for a week long adventure and science exploration. This year I will be chaperoning for the fifth time, and I have loved it every time.

So why might this matter to my trophy hunting compatriots?

Last year. I came home from this trip and started earning trophies...and didn't stop. Today, I am still carrying the streak that started the day I came home last year. The week we spend in the Tetons and Greater Yellowstone Area is jam packed. Like puppies, we keep these kids busy all day long. The challenge for me is going to be finding snippets of time to snag a trophy to preserve the streak.

VITA to the rescue! Two of the days are on the bus driving to and from the science school. I will have ample free time on the bus to get trophies on Saturday/Sunday we drive down, and then Friday/Saturday coming back. That leaves Monday through Thursday, which get a little more dicey. Luckily, I am a early riser. I typically have an hour or more before even other chaperones start waking up in the morning and even longer before students start waking up. I've got lots of games on my Vita memory card and on physical cards but I'm planning on getting trophies in Guacamelee! because they seem to flow pretty easily from that game so far; but I have plenty of back up options.

I am super pumped about returning to my mountains again this year as well as the meta challenge of keeping my trophy streak alive and well. dance

Here is a picture of Old Faithful I took on a previous trip clap

PermalinkSummer, Summer, Summertime. Time to sit back and unwind.
It is that time of year once again, to say "so long" to this year's students and "hello" to my big, beautiful, backlog. laugh

The goals I set for 2019 are well underway - with one that I am feeling a little apprehensive about meeting. To revisit:

2019 Goals
Platinums: 78 (+27 in 2019)
Total Trophies: 4000 (An increase in overall trophy earning rate over the last 30 months)
Completion %: 80% (To stop myself from farming all the easy trophies in my backlog)
Streak: 573 days (Continue current streak for all of 2019; attempting alongside blooddogg757)
Site RPG Rank: 250 (+585 positions)
Platinum/Complete: Last of Us, Diablo III, Uncharted 4, Fallout 4 (The four PS4 games I bought with the system back in 2016)

I got Platinum #18 for 2019 on June 2nd. By comparison I was on #6 the same time last year, so 78 by year's end will be no problem. I'm looking at 566 more trophies to hit 4K by 2020 - also in good shape. I have already hit 85% completion and maintained my steak; hitting one year the other day. I've platinumed Last of Us and Diablo III, leaving Fallout 4 DLC and Uncharted 4 Platinum. I have not made any real progress moving up the ranks on the RPG leader board (apparently you have to play lots of RPGs to improve your rank; who knew??)

So I have roughly two glorious months of gaming ahead of me. Here is my prospective Summer hit-list:

PS4
Dragon Quest XI (already 40 hours in)
Dragon Quest Heroes II (maybe 10 hours in?)
Dead Rising 4 (the last of the 4 PS4 released DR games I need)
Uncharted 4
A Plague Tale
A Way Out (with a teacher colleague of mine)

PS3
Alice: Madness Returns (60% done with first playthrough)

Vita
Final Fantasy X2 (at the end of first playthrough)
Guacamelee!

If I can get all that done, we'll see what else roll

Of course E3 is next week! Looking forward to more on Monster Hunter: Iceborne, Death Stranding, Panzer Paladin, Medieval, Shenmue III, Catherine Full Body, Persona Scramble and Persona 5 The Royal. Plus whatever other surprises are coming smile

PermalinkCharting the Uncharted
For a myriad of reasons, I ended up skipping most of the PS3 generation, only starting when my wife wanted to play Ni no Kuni bad enough to warrant buying the system. Later, when I bought a PS4, I got a good deal on the blue Uncharted 4 system. I had never played an Uncharted game before for the reason already mentioned. That big red 4 on the cover of the pack-in game compelled me to not even put the disk in the system until I had experienced 1-3. I bought the Nathan Drake collection and experienced the entire saga in a relatively short period of time, starting one as soon as I finished the last. I am absolutely glad that I did play them all before 4, as it made the relationships and backstories of the characters so much more poignant. However the undesired side effect of this Uncharted binge was that, as time went on, I was left with no clear memory of the events of any specific game. It was like all of Nathan's adventures were were one nebulous series of encounters and not distinct, seperate tales.

Fast forward to today. One of my 2019 goals is to platinum/complete the first four games that I got with my system in 2016: The Last of Us Remastered, Diablo III, Fallout 4 (finish DLC), and Uncharted 4. Seeing as I was not concerned with getting all the trophies when I played through all 4 the first time, I decided to expand my goal to getting the platinum for all 4 games, taking time to fully digest each experience before moving on to the next. I earned the Platinum for Drake's Fortune on 3/23 and I am getting ready to dive into Among Thieves soon, taking time to smell the flowers this time...except on the speedrun. laugh
