3. Trine 2 Story walkthroughUpdate notes

Important: Please note that this Walkthrough is for the PS3 version of the game; The PS4 version has a substantially different trophy list which cannot be completed as quickly.

Since a full playthrough is not required to get the platinum in this version of the game I will instead list the stages and the trophies obtained in each stage.

Stage 1:

Stage 1 is a short introduction stage to introduce you to each of the three playable characters in the game. You will learn a bit about each character's special abilities as well as how they can be used compared to the other two to help overcome obstacles.

First you will start as Amadeus the Wizard. The first trophy in the game can be obtained within 20 seconds of controlling him. Simply walk to the right until you see two mushrooms and some bubbles emerging from the ground. Create a box with Amadeus and slowly push one of the large bubbles downwards for a few seconds and the trophy for This Wasn't the Plan should pop:

Play through the rest of the Amadeus segment of the level then finish Pontius (the Knight) and Zoya's (the Rogue) parts to complete stage 1.

Stage 2:

Stage 2 has a few trophies that you can obtain. There are some that are pretty much specific to this stage and a few others you can get on most stages but we will get them out of the way early. Note that you will need to have collected enough experience pickups to upgrade your character at least once to obtain most of these trophies.

Before you run ahead into the level please read about the first three trophies listed here. They need to be worked on throughout the stage and to save you having to repeat.

'Dirty Tactics' is a fun little trophy that requires a bit of skill. To get it you need to have 10 enemies killed by other enemies in a level. There are two ways to go about this one. First is to use Pontius (The Knight) and hold your shield up when you come to a group of enemies. The enemies will not kill you and instead hit your shield. If there is more than one enemy trying to hit you then the one at the back will instead be hitting the one closer to you. After a few hits by his 'friend' he will die. The second strategy to get this trophy is to use Amadeus and his Monster Levitation ability. It works largely the same as the Pontius strategy but instead of blocking enemies you use the levitation ability to grab an enemy and hold him between you and another enemy. As before, a few hits and he will die.

  • Dirty Tactics

Get at least 10 enemies killed by other enemies' actions in a single level

    Dirty Tactics
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

The next trophy to be aware of is called 'I Didn't Do It'. This trophy is awarded for killing goblins with 3 different environmental hazards in a single level. By that it means you need to actually use the level to kill the goblins. That is, have the goblins fall in spikes or crushed etc. I found the best level for this is level 2 as there are quite a few areas with enemies and environmental hazards close by. Just after the first lot of enemies is a platform you can use to crush a goblin. Not too long after that is a pit of spikes you can levitate a goblin into. Further into the level after the second big ambush of goblins is a plant that shoots at you. If you can get a goblin in the firing line the plant will kill it. And just after the plant will be a goblin that pushes a boulder onto you. You can levitate the boulder to kill this goblin. There may be more environmental hazards in the level but these were the ones I found easiest to work with. I've included a video below to show you the locations of them all.

  • I Didn't Do It

Make goblins die of three different environmental hazards in a single level

    I Didn't Do It
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

While working towards the aforementioned trophy Dirty Tactics whenever you get to the last enemy or you find an enemy on his own switch to Pontius and purchase his Hammer Throwing ability. To get the associated trophy Hammer Havok you must kill an enemy after the hammer has bounced off an object once thrown. You can use walls, ceilings or floors it doesn't matter as long as it hits something before the enemy. To throw the hammer switch to it using cn_T then 'charge' it by holding cn_RS in any direction. Let go of cn_RS to throw the hammer.

  • Hammer Havoc

Kill an enemy with a thrown hammer bouncing at least once before kill

    Hammer Havoc
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

Not too long after the first encounter with enemies, you will come to an area where you need to traverse some platforms while there are some rock pendulums swinging around. Below this area will be a pile of 5 crates. Kill the 2 enemies in the area then using Amadeus stack the 5 crates one on top of the other so that the stack is 5 high. Then, backtrack a little to the previous checkpoint and collect the crate that is there as well. Take it back to the stack of 5 and put it on top. You will now have a stack of 6. At this point in the game you should have collected 50 experience bubbles which is enough to purchase the 'Two Conjured Items' ability with Amadeus. With this ability enabled create two extra boxes on top of your current 6 and stand atop it. The High Rise trophy will pop immediately. If the trophy does not pop make sure that no part of the tower is touching or leaning against another object. It must be a free standing tower.

  • High Rise

Construct a tower made of eight objects and stand on top of it

    High Rise
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

Later on in the level you will come to a part where there are 3 bouncy mushrooms/toadstools. Using Amadeus create a box above them and let it drop and start bouncing. Now simply jump atop the box and ride it for 10 seconds as it continues to bounce. This sounds easy but it is actually quite challenging as the box rarely bounces on a flat edge but instead the corners so the box will rotate and move about as you try and stay on it. This will net you the Bouncy Bouncy trophy.

  • Bouncy Bouncy

Stand on a conjured box bouncing on any bouncy surface for 10 seconds

    Bouncy Bouncy
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

Towards the end of the level you will come to a pipe producing steam vertically. This is the location of the last 2 trophies you can get in this stage. Luckily they are both quite easy. For the first one stand in the pipe's steam and you will float above the pipe. Purchase Amadeus' Plank ability for 2 skill points (this will require 100 experience point pickups which you should have at this point in the game assuming you have killed all enemies and collected most of the stage's experience) and create a plank below you. Now simply balance the plank on the steam for several seconds and the trophy will pop.

Just to the left of the steam pipe there will be a post that you can grapple on to with Zoya. This is a good spot to try for the Cirque de Zoya trophy due to how narrow it is. To get this trophy you must swing under the post, release the grapple and jump over the post without touching it, then regrapple on to the post before hitting the ground. It might take a few turns to get your momentum right but it isn't too difficult.

  • Cirque de Zoya

Using grapple, swing around an object and reattach grapple again without touching any surface

    Cirque de Zoya
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

Once you have obtained these two trophies head to the right and defeat the boss of the level.

Stage 3:

If you have been collecting most of the experience pickups and killing the majority of enemies by this point in the game you should have collected a total of 150 experience points. This will allow you to purchase Zoya's 'Frozen Arrows' level 2 ability. We need this to get the 'A Hail of Arrows' trophy. This trophy requires you to fire arrows in the air with Zoya and catch 3 with Pontius. Level 2 Frozen Arrows is important because each time Zoya fires an arrow she actually fires 2, therefore doubling your chances to get this. The way I got this was to fire a mid-strength shot directly up, then immediately fire a low strength shot directly up, then switch to Pontius and hold your shield up with cn_RS and hope you catch 3 of the 4 arrows you just fired.

  • A Hail of Arrows

Shoot 3 arrows in the air and catch them all with the Knight's shield

    A Hail of Arrows
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

Stage 4:

There are no stage specific trophies that you can earn in this stage. You can use it to clean up any of the non stage specific trophies such as 'Dirty Tactics' or 'I Didn't Do It'. Also try and collect as many experience points as you can here as it will make the final trophy for completing a stage with one character a little easier.

Stage 5:

Much like stage 4 there isn't much to do here trophywise. Play through it and collect as many experience pickups as you can.

Stage 6:

About halfway through the stage you will come to a part where you need to remove a part of a pipe to heat up a cauldron with a flame. With the flame on the cauldron an infinite amount of lizards will spawn. To get the trophy 'Icebreaker' here you need to have Zoya's Frozen Arrows level 2, and Pontius' Charge ability. What you need to do is freeze 3 of the lizards with Zoya's arrows, then quickly switch to Pontius and charge in the direction of the frozen enemies. If you can hit all 3 frozen enemies with the charge the trophy should pop.

  • Icebreaker

Shatter three frozen enemies within one second

    Icebreaker
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.Time/Date - These trophies require you to play the game or perform actions at certain times, within a time limit, or on specific dates.

Stage 7:

The last level specific trophy comes in level 7, and it is actually the furthest you have to go into the game in order to obtain the platinum which is great for trophy hunters like myself. Anyway... soon after starting the level you will come to some large plants that eat your heroes and enemies. To pop this trophy all you need to do is feed one of these plants 3 different 'treats'. You could use Amadeus' monster levitation ability to feed it some enemies or you could just run into it with each of your heroes. Either way will net you the trophy.

  • A Floral Feast

Feed carnivorous plants with three or more different kinds of treats

    A Floral Feast
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

Stage 2: Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more

Now that you've got some experience orbs from the first 7 levels you should be able to upgrade one character enough to attempt completing a level solo. Keep in mind some characters cannot complete a level without the help of others- but fear not as level 2 can be done with only Amadeus. The upgrades I suggest using are Monster Levitation, create 3 objects, and (if you can afford it) 'Monster Prison'. It should be noted that this is easiest to obtain on easy difficulty. The trick to this trophy is to take things slowly. You should be comfortable with fighting the enemies if you used Amadeus to get the Dirty Tactics trophy the first time you played through the level. If you are ever low on health you can run back to a previous checkpoint to fill up your health bar. The boss battle shouldn't be too difficult if you know how to beat it. The two right most beams can be destroyed with a conjured box while the top left most must be eaten by the snake. Just climb up to it and wait for him to strike and jump away.

With that trophy out of the way and assuming you have followed the guide up until now the platinum trophy should pop immediately afterwards. Congratulations on your new completion :)
