3. Terraria Pre- Hard ModeUpdate notes

Let's begin shall we....

First thing you are going to want to do is start the Tutorial. The Guide will work you through this section and teach you the basics. This will also earn you 2 trophies

Hide ads

Now to get really started. I should note that I am writing this under the assumption that you are playing alone and will be directed at that but if you are playing with friends then it is a whole lot easier since the bosses and enemies do not have any changes in difficulty even if there are 6 or 7 of you.

When you are creating your world make sure you are selecting a large world, that way you will have more resources to grab. You will want to start by building a base. You will have noticed by now that you start off with some tools. You start off in the morning so you will have a good 12 minutes or so to grab lots of wood (each in game hour is equivalent to 1 real minute). Just make sure you have at least 1 house built just now so that you can have some protection for when the mobs start spawning at night. Building this house will cause the Guide to move in also, only throughout the day though) which will earn you

  • No Hobo

Build a suitable house for your first town NPC, such as the guide, to move into.

    No Hobo

If it is still light out then make the most of it and try and find some chests on the surface, as well as killing some Slimes so you can make some torches. Once night falls you can try your luck against the mobs, zombies and demon eyes is all you will need to worry about at this point, or you can just chill out in your house. Once morning comes you will have earned

Now is when you wanna start exploring. Gather as much ore as you can and as many Heart Crystals from the Underground as you can, but do not use more than 4. Using 5 will put you at 200 HP will enter you into some difficulties such as Goblin Army and Eye of Cthulhu. Try and keep your NPCs at a maximum of 3 for now also, having 4 or more will also trigger the Eye of Cthulhu. Having 200HP or 4 NPC's will allow him to randomly spawn at night (33% chance each night of him spawning) and at this stage you will not be prepared. Just keep working on improving your armour to Gold or Platinum level, as well as your Sword and Tools. Each world will have certain ores and will not have some others but this does not matter as they are the same, all Gold equipment as identical to Platinum and so forth. You also may get lucky and come across some other weapons so keep your eyes open for chests. If you come across a Dungeon with an Old Man asking you to break his curse, do not help and do not enter the dungeon, this will result in the Dungeon Guardian appearing and insta-killing you.

Once you have a set of armour, it can even be wood armour, go into the Equip menu and move your armour into your Vanity slots for a couple seconds to earn you

Again keep exploring and gathering. Things to keep an eye out for here are Lens, which are dropped from Demonic Eyes, keep gathering these as they can become useful later as you can craft a Suspicious Looking Eye which is used to manually summon Eye of Cthulhu. Once you are strong enough to take him down without much effort, these will be great for farming him for resources and just getting used to fighting bosses. Rotten Flesh/Vertebrae is another item you wanna be on the lookout for, it will vary which one you need depending on if your world has a Crimson Biome (Red) or a Corrupt Biome (Purple). These will be used to craft Worm Food with the Rotten Flesh to summon the Eater of Worlds or a Bloody Spine with the Vertebrae to summon the Brain of Cthuhulu. These aren't important right now but it is wise to keep these items for laer use.

What you want to be aiming to get at this stage is Gold/Platinum everything, Armour, Pickaxe, Bow with lot's of Arrows. You can go for the Sword too if you haven't found a better one in a chest. If you have found 15 of any gem type craft a hook, this thing is a life saver.

EYE OF CTHULHU

Now we are going to try take down the Eye of Cthuhlu. He is a relatively simple boss but can pose some problems quite early on, especially if you are still not used to the game yet. Make sure you are fully loaded with Gold/ Platinum gear as suggested and make sure you have a flat piece of land nearby so that you can easily move around. It is possible to take him down pretty quickly with weaker gear but since this is probably your first time it is best to be safe. Recommended potions are Ironskin potion, Swiftness potion and Archery Potion. Hopefully you will have a few Life Hearts gathered up too, if so use them all. If you have found some Suspicious Looking Eyes you can manually summon him (only at night) or you can just wait until he randomly appears at night (33% chance once you have 200HP+ or 4 or more NPCs). Shurikens are also really effective against him due to their fast speed, these are found quite often in breakable pots.

You can summon him manually using a Suspicious Looking Eye which you can crat with 6 Lens at a Demon or Crimson Altar.

The fight itself is pretty straightforward, dodge his attacks and keep firing arrows at him. If he goes left you go right and vice versa, if he lunges at you jump over him. Avoid his little servants and shoot them down too. keep continuing like this until his health gets down to half, after this he will change form into an eye with teeth. Yes, an eye with teeth. His attacks change a little here but not too much, they are quite easy to dodge just like his former self except he also does a chomping attack where he just rushes into you. Similar to his previous lunge attacks but a little faster and slightly harder to avoid. Just keep firing away and dodging and you should be fine. Do not use melee attacks though. Later in the game when you have higher gear and weapons, feel free to but using a sword at this stage does more harm than good. Just stick to your bow and take your time. He should go down pretty easy. Once he is defeated he will drop some goodies, mostly health potions and lots of Demonite/ Crimtane Ore (depending on your world). If you have some left over Suspicious Looking Eyes and you feel up to it again and it is still night time (he vanishes at sunrise) take him down again for some more Ore.

Here is a video of one of the legends, Yrmir, taking him down on the first night without healing (I advise against trying this though, his guy makes some of the pros look like noobs), it gives you a good example of how to move around him and take him down easily. The boss fight itself takes place around 7.40 (If you feel like getting a good tutorial on the game you should check out his channel Yrmir and I wanna give a lot of credit to him as I have included quite a few videos from him)

This one is kinda the same thing only he done it more how I suggested and it was done on console this time, boss fight starts at around 10.25

Feeling good about yourself yet? Well don't this guy is a cake walk compared to the rest of them. Use the Ore you obtained to get some new gear, Bow and Armour preferably. You won't be able to get a new Pickaxe from it just yet, you will need a drop from Eater of Worlds/ Brain Cthulhu to make that.

Now you likely have found 5 different potions by now surely, drink one of each and get 5 different buffs from them to unlock

From this point on, use all the Life Hearts you find and starting building some more houses for the NPCs (I will give a more detailed description of their requirements in the End Game page). The goal now is to start preparing for Eater of Worlds/ Brain of Cthulhu and very likely a goblin invasion. The goblin invasion is random and since you will have surpassed the 200 HP mark you are now prone to being invaded. A message will appear on screen when they are about to strike. Compared to later world events this is super easy, it is just waves and waves of goblins, the only pain part of this are the wizards and archers as they can attack you from distance, take them out first then work on the rest. Defeating them will earn you

  • Goblin Punter

Triumph over a goblin invasion, the pointy-eared warriors and their shadowflame sorcerers.

    Goblin Punter

If your world contains a Corrupt biome then those spiky balls you will have picked up during the invasion will come in real handy. If you have a Crimson biome then they don't really matter as much. They can be really effective against the Eater of Worlds.

This is where the main complications start to happen, depending on your world we are about to go fight the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu. I am going to try and keep things as simple as possible but later in the game it can keep a bit more crazy. If you haven't discovered if your world has a Crimson or Corrupt biome go look now. You will know what you have immediately when you see it, Crimson is red and Corrupt is purple. Each of the biomes contain a type of stone wall that your current pickaxe will not be able to break through so you will need to do one of three things. 1- Blow the walls out with dynamite, 2- Buy some Purification powder form the Dryad NPC (she is the one that arrives after beating the Eye of Cthulhu and has green hair), with this powder you can turn this wall into regualar stone and mine through it, 3- Collect enough Vertebrae or Rotten Flesh to craft a Bloody Spine or Worm Food ( it really does get more complicated later on) which can be used to spawn its respective boss.

The stony sections of these biomes will contain several circular gaps with an orb in the middle, this is what we are looking for, break through the walls using one of the methods above then use a hammer to break the orb. The boss will spawn after breaking 3 of these (breaking one will also start a spawn cycle for a meteorite landing). I will start off with the Eater of Worlds (Corrupt) then move onto Brain of Cthulhu (Crimson).

EATER OF WORLDS

You can summon him manually using Worm Food which you can craft with 30 Vile Powder and 15 Rotten Flesh at an Altar. He can only be summoned in a Corrupt biome.

The easiest way I have found of taking him down is those Spiky Balls dropped by the Goblin Army . Before destroying the 3rd orb throw down as many of these as you ca. As you will quickly see Eater of Worlds is a worm creature made up of sections, when it passes through these spiky balls it gets hit several times. Recommended equipment is almost the same as Eye of Cthulhu, the only change is swapping a bow out for a sword, preferably a Lights Bane sword which you may have crafted from the demonite dropped from the Eye. If you don't have that then a Gold/Platinum sword will suffice. Potions you should bring are Iron Skin and Regeneration. As the Eater is moving through the Spiky Balls keep swinging your sword at him and you should take him down pretty easily, there really is not much challenge here and I would argue that this is the easiest of all the bosses and not the Eye of Cthulhu. he will drop a lot of Demonite and Shadow Scale. With the Shadow Scale you can now use the demonite to craft a new tier of Pickaxe and armour.

Here is a video of the spiky ball tactic in action, credit for the video goes to Two guys one channel.

BRAIN OF CTHULHU

You can summon him manually using a Bloody Spine, crafted with 15 Vertebrae at an Altar. You can only summon him in a Crimson Biome.

Before destroying the 3rd orb to summon him (or using the Bloody Spine) go into the wide open space of the biome and make a long platform out of dirt or stone, else you will be falling down holes the whole fight. Recommended gear and potions is the same as the Eye of Cthulhu fight, the only change being a Tendon Bow from the Crimtane ore the Eye dropped. The first part of this fight is the creepers that are spawned from the Brain (not to be confused with Minecrafts Creepers), these can be taken out easily with a sword and don't have that much health, if you still don't feel too comfortable getting up close and personal then a bow will work just fine. The Brain will start attacking you once all creepers are defeated and has an easy attack pattern, the creepers are easily the hardest part of the fight, where he will teleport towards you and will keep teleporting in your direction each time you hit him. I will include a video of Yrmir fighting him on the first night (I keep showing the first night fights to show how easy they can be once you know what you are doing), so you can see how the boss moves about. Once he has been defeated you can craft a new pickaxe and some new armour using Crimtane Ore and the Tissue Samples he drops.

The boss fight starts at around 5.25

Phew, now that all that Crimson/ Corrupt madness is out of the way for now I might be able to start speaking sensibly again, my head is starting to implode thinking about it. Next thing we need to start preparing for is Skeletron, so first things first locate the Dungeon. This will be on the surface to the left or the right of the map. You will know it as soon as you see it, just do not enter unless you want to die instantly. Since you destroyed an orb or heart in the Crimson or Corrupt you just need to wait on a Meteorite landing so again just go exploring, find new accessories, gather some Obsidian so you can make an Obsidian Skull (negates fire damages from certain bricks such as meteorite). It should only take 2-3 nights for a meteorite to spawn but like most things in this game it will spawn when it wants too, could be first night after, could be 10 nights after, sometimes as soon as you destroy an orb. There is a 2% chance each night of it spawning but a 50% chance of it spawning the night after you destroy the Shadow Orb/ Pulsating Heart.

To mine the meteorite when it lands you will need to have an Obsidian Skull or Obsidian Skin potion to prevent fire damage, you could also make some sticky bombs using bombs and gel and blow the meteorite apart then just pick up the loose pieces when you have finished. The recommended items to craft from this are full set of Meteor Armour, Space Gun (when wearing full Meteor Armour this uses no mana) and a Phaseblade (you will also need 10 of whichever gem you wish to use, the gem you use determines the colour). The phaseblade is basically a Lightsaber which is pretty cool.

SKELETRON

There is a way to summon him manually but you need to have beaten Plantera to access Hard Mode dungeon. An enemy there has a chance to drop a Clothier Voodoo Doll, you can equip this and kill the Clothier to summon him.

To start this fight you need to speak to the old man at the entrance to the dungeon during the night, best to start it at the beginning of the night however, as if you have not defeated him by the time morning comes you will be killed instantly if he touches you. Before starting though it is recommended that you clear out a flat piece of land just next to the entrance so you can move around freely. If you have the Space Gun and Meteor Armour use that to fight him, if not then your demonite/crimtane bow will do fine. Ironskin, Archery and Regeneration potions are recommended. If you have a spare 25 gold then you could just buy the Minishark minigun from the Guns Trader but Space Gun is very good too.

There are three parts to Skeletron - Head and 2 arms, taking out the head will kill him but I suggest you go for the arms first. The arms have a lot less health than the head and can give you some trouble, once you have them out of the picture though then the head is relatively easy to avoid and take down. Just dodge and shoot as much as you can. With the meteor and space gun combo you use 0 mana so you can just hold down fire and show the boss who's boss.

Here is a video of the boss fight, this shows both Space Gun and Minishark in action against him. Credit goes to Jaarnriel for making the video.

Congratulations you can now walk freely through the dungeon without having to be killed instantly by the guardian. There are a lot of good items in here for the taking but there are also a lot of traps such as dart traps, spikes, spinning flames and spinning spike balls. There are also a lot of chests that you will need keys to open, all of them except the odd brown chest. The main chests are the gold chests which can be opened with a golden key.

Golden Keys can be acquired in 5 ways:

  1. Finding one in an unlocked, normal Chest in the Dungeon
  2. Finding one in an unlocked, Living Wood Chest inside a Living Tree.
  3. Killing a Dungeon Slime (100% drop)
  4. Killing another Dungeon monster (1/65 chance)
  5. Breaking a pot in the Dungeon (1/40 chance)

Credit goes to http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Golden_Key for that mini list

There are 4 other chests that you cannot access until later on in hard mode which we will be coming back to (or starting a new world if you don't have a Crimson Biome as the Crimson chest has a very overpowered and must have weapon - The Vampire Knives).

The enemies here are a bit tougher than some of the other enemies you have encountered so far so yo may die a few times Just keep collecting Golden keys and opening chests until you have Shadow key, Muramasa and Cobalt Shield. You will also notice bookshelves all over the place, most of these are just regular books but there are hidden books in some of them that contain spells so break these open, the one you are looking for is the Water Bolt. The other items I mentioned are mostly for crafting new gear later but the Water Bolt is a very good weapon to use against the Wall of Flesh. Also keep an eye out for the Bound Mechanic, once you untie her she will become and NPC and is required for 2 trophies.

By now you should have a lot of good gear and should be able to knock out some of the trophies, some of which you may have popped along the way, one of which may have been

  • Bloodbath

Survive a blood moon, where the rivers run red and monsters swarm aplenty.

    Bloodbath
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

You have zero control over this, it could happen for the first time early in the game, 20 hours in, you can even get it 2 nights in a row so if it has happened, great, if not don't worry it will, most likely when you are in the middle of doing something. Nothing really special to note here, Blood Moon just increases enemy spawn rates and enemies can open your house doors. You can just avoid the enemies all together by hiding underground or putting a piece of wood or dirt in front of your door.

Make a bucket out of Iron/Lead (just wait until Hard Mode all these this or that items get more vast so apologies in advance) and find some lava deep underground, you should only need 1, and scoop it up. Once you have a bucket of lava head back to base and trap the guide in a little room and pour the lava in. This is not to be mistaken with throwing the guide voodoo doll in lava to summon Wall of Flesh or for killing the Guide, this has to be kill the actual guide with lava.Once he dies you will earn

If you have a house ready for the Mechanic and have her moved in buy 100 wire and a set of pliers from her. use the pliers to place the wire, doesn't matter where you place it or if they are connected, just place 100 to unlock

Since Meteors have landed we can work on making a sky bridge. Grab as much dirt, stone, mud etc as you can and start building a 1 block wide tower upwards by jumping and placing the block underneath you. Once you start to jump higher and fall slowly due to the height you can stop. Decide which whether you want to go left or right then just make as long a stretch of block as you can. This will be used for running along at night collecting stars. You also have a great chance of finding a Floating Island when you are up there. There are also others ways to find one, such as firing you Water Bolt upwards and wait and see if the shot comes back down, if it does there is likely an Island there so just build up. Chance are you will find one when making a bridge

Each Island contains a little house with a chest, there are 2 items you will be looking for - Lucky Horseshoe (Negates fall damage)and Shiny Red Balloon (Increases jump height). While you are here you may as well keep building up until you reach the top of the map unlocking

If you found the Horseshoe equip it and jump off the island (if there is water underneath the island or you have a featherfall potion you can also jump off safely without the horseshoe) and in doing so unlock

Back to the stars, you are going to need a lot of these, especially depending on how you want to deal with the Wall of Flesh. For increasing the mana pool to max you are going to need 45 stars. If you wanna use the Water Bolt against WoF then you will need a lot for making Lesser Mana Potions. If you wanna use the Star Cannon method then you will need to spend a long time gathering stars or use the duplication method as you will need a lot of them, but they pack a serious punch to the WoF and will dispatch him without much effort. The Star Cannon has pretty high damage and fast shooting speed, but it uses stars as ammo and like I said it fires fast so a lot of stars are needed. There is the option of just using the Meteor/ Space Gun combo or the minishark too which you won't need any extra stars for. Either way it is wise to gather stars for the mana pool now as if you leave it until Hard Mode you will need to deal with Wyverns (they can be very hard early on hard mode)

Back on the ground starting mining a long tunnel from the center of the map to the ocean so you have a nice long running strip, you might not need to full length of it but better to be safe than sorry. Run the full length of it without stopping for 60 seconds and you will get

There is a chance you might have already unlocked this next one, if you haven't then this will count towards and will unlock naturally as you are moving about the map

These next 2 are the same as Marathon Runner and while likely just pop randomly for you. As you are mining away you will quickly earn yourself this one and if you haven't, well you still got a lot of mining to do anyway so no worries, almost unmissable.

And lastly you will need to have spent a cumulative 60 minutes in the air, this includes jumping, falling, flying with wings equipped (hard mode) and grappling onto stuff. This is one that will just pop over time so just keep playing the game paying no attention to it.

Now it is time the visit the lava filled underground of the world, Hell. Just mine straight down all the way as this tunnel will also be used for a Hellavator which will allow to get to hell and back quickly. you will most likely mine through deep pockets of water so keep an eye on your air bubbles and come up for air often (unless you have some Gills Potions, just keep in mind that while these are active you can "drown" outside of water). When you reach the lava pits all this water will come in handy and you can get quite a bit of Obsidian here, which you will need for smelting Hellstone Ore. Once you reach Hell keep mining down until you reach the very bottom unlocking

There are a few things to do down here, trophy and progress related stuff, including mining Hellstone. Don't mine that just yet though as each piece of Hellstone mined releases lava so you will have to mine careful from a few blocks away or get Obsidian Skin potions, I recommend the latter. Before we start on getting what we need fro down here, let's work on some more trophies. You will need to get to hell and back without dying which is one of the reasons for the tunnel so get back to the surface. You can use a magic mirror if you have found one but I don't think the trophy unlocks that way, which doesn't matter as that will unlock during the hellavator trophy attempt. If you don't have a mirror, use your grappling hook to get back to your tunnel, you might need to build a little tower upwards first to reach it,k then proceed to grapple your way back to the surface.

  • To Hell and Back

Travel from the Surface to the Underworld and back in one fell swoop.

    To Hell and Back
Online/Offline - These trophies can be obtained in either an online or offline mode.Single Player - These trophies can be obtained by a single player.Cooperative - These trophies can be obtained by two or more players in a cooperative game mode who have met the trophy requirements.

Once back at the top, grab as much of the rope you will have collected (assuming you kept it) and start feeding it down your tunnel. If you run out then you can buy some from Merchant. You will need quite a lot of rope, over 1,000 at least. Cover up your tunnel entrance with wood platform so that NPCs don't fall down and to attach your rope to. You can just stand at the top placing rope and it will continue feeding itself downwards until it hits the bottom. When finished just slide all the way down then immediately back up.

Once back at the top you should unlock

I say should as it can be a little glitchy unlocking. Some have reported that (and I seen this 1st hand recently) they had to use the Magic Mirror to get back up then slide down. I have seen many people have it unlock naturally just sliding up and down so it seems it is a more uncommon glitch. This will also unlock To Hell and Back if you didn't get it before.

Back in Hell there are some things we need to work on before we get to Wall of Flesh. You will want to get 1 or 2 Voodoo Guide Dolls. You could use just the one if you want to save before use as you need 1 to summon WoF and 1 for killing the guide. You can get the dolls from Voodoo Demons, you will know these guys from the other ones as he will carry the doll with its feet. There are also Shadow Chests on top of Hell Houses that need the Shadow Key to open. Unlock the Golden Keys the Shadow Key does not get consumed upon opening the chests so you can use it infinite times. In these you will find some mediocre weapons with good sell prices, Meteorite and Gold bars, Gold coins and Obsidian Skin potions. If you find some potions then get drinking and start mining Hellstone. To smelt the Hellstone you will also need a Hellforge which is an orange furnace and can be found all over Hell. This is about all there is to do down here for now. Just make sure you have enough Hellstone to make the armour, Pickaxe and Fiery Greatsword. If you want a really good Bow you can make 2 Molten Fury bows with the hellstone which are used to make the Sharanga Bow.

While you may be ready to fight the WoF, leave it for now. It is time to clean up some loose ends and start preparing for Hard mode, as soon as the WoF dies then the game gets a lot harder. There are still 2 more bosses to face during pre-hard mode, there isn't any real need in facing either just now unless you want to dress up like a bee but I will stick some info here since this they are pre hard mode bosses. First up is King Slime (he may have already spawned randomly) who spawns rarely so you will likely need to make his summoning item.

KING SLIME

To summon him manually you need to craft a Slime Crown which you can craft with 99 Gel and 1 Gold/ Platinum Crown (made from 30 Gold/ Platinum bars and 1 Ruby at an Anvil). The Slime Crown can be crafted at an Altar.

I really don't need to say anything about this guy as he is very easy. Strategy is basically the same as fighting any other slime you have encountered, only a lot bigger and when hit regular slimes will drop from him. You can use you ranged gear if you wish but you might as well relax and just go at him with your Fiery Greatsword.

Video belongs to MrShumtastic

Off to the Jungle for the other boss, the Queen Bee. You might have came across a bee hive earlier when looking for gear and possibly even killed. With you current gear there is not much challenge here. While you are in the jungle though make sure you grab some Stingers and Jungle Spores, around 15 of each, these will be needed for a sword we need to make). Once you find a hive you will see a little mini hive inside it (they can sometime be hidden in the honey pits) destroy this to summon

QUEEN BEE

To summon her manually you need a lot of stuff to craft an Abeemination. You will need 5 Honey Blocks, 3 Crispy Honey Blocks, 1 Stinger, 5 Hive, 2 Obsidian and 1 Bottled Honey, You can craft this at an Altar and it can only be used within a Hive.

This boss has 2 attack patterns, she will start off flying on and off screen in you direction, this is easily avoided by double jumping, she will do this around 3 times then hover above you shooting bees, this is when you attack with ranged weapons, Minishark, Space Gun, Sharanga. Sometimes when standing still she will appear to get stuck in her hive which is perfect for firing on her. She will go back to her original attack now and again but you should take her down pretty quickly and gain some bee related loot such as a Bee Sword, Bee clothes, Bee Grenades, Bee Gun. They are all pretty crap and are more novelty items than weapons.

Here is Yrmir again with another first night boss kill to show how easy she is. Boss fight starts at 7.25

With those 2 disposed of time to get back to work. take those Jungle Spores and Stingers and make a Blade of Grass sword. If you didn't make a sword with your demonite/crimtane make that now. Take the Fiery Greatsword, Muramasa, Blade of Grass and the Demonite/crimtane sword and head to a demon/crimson altar and craft the Nights Edge sword. This is a very good sword and will be your main sword for quite a while. Now to make sure you have some certain items, a little checklist if you will. Cloud/Blizzard/ Sandstorm in a bottle, Shiny Red balloon, Lucky horseshoe, Hermes/ Flurry Boots, Rocket Boots (sold by Goblin Tinkerer), Magic Mirror, Mana Flower, Anklet of the Wind and Aglet. If you are unsure where some of these are just search it in the Terraria Wikia http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Terraria_Wiki , also be sure to check out http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Tinkerer%27s_Workshop as most of these items can be combined so that you can equip more stuff. Some of the items listed in that are Hard Mode or added in a later update but if you click on an item you will find out if it is available just now (Version 1.2). The Tinkerers Workshop is almost an essential item in this game.

Equip the guide voodoo doll in your accessories slot, if you only have one then turn off auto save and save manually so you can reload after killing the guide. With the doll equipped you now have the ability to kill the guide, so why not try out your new sword? Just walk up to him and stab him until he dies and the trophy is all yours

Stock up on more dirt, stone type blocks and lots of them. Head down to hell and make a platform from one end of the map to the other, this will make the Wall of Flesh a lot easier and the easier you can make the fight the better as this guy is pretty tough. I highly advise you have autosave turned off when you are ready to fight him and just use manual saves so you can reload your save since Voodoo dolls can be a bit uncommon as you may have noticed, it will also save having to wait for the guide to respawn.

Now are you prepared? Do you have "full" health and mana? (You can't get proper full health until hard mode) Have you decided which method to use? If using Star Cannon have you got a lot of stars? Water Bolt with lots of potions (a good 60 or so)? Once you kill him there is no turning back and the game will get significantly harder. Since I am going to give a lot of strategies I will mostly just put videos rather than a written guide. Just run across your platform firing as much as you can and hope he doesn't kill you. Have Ironskin, Regeneration, Thorns and Swiftness potions. Onto battle we go

THE WALL OF FLESH

He is all that stands between you and hard mode, and he can be quite challenging, especially the first time you face him. Throw the Voodoo Doll into the lava and let's get started. I am going to put 4 videos here for different strategies and a video from Yrmir killing him on the 2nd night (that guy blows my mind).

First one I will put is using the Water Bolt, do not do it how Yrmir does it, play it safe wear armour, have health and a platform.

Next up is the Minishark, if you have some Meteorite Ore left over make some Meteor Shot bullets to deal some extra damage. Credit to ManIkWeet for the video

This one is using the Star Cannon, the video shows 2 of them using the Star Cannon but it is easy enough with just 1 person. You will see just how fast it fires stars so you can get a good estimate at how many you will need. Credit to SuspiciousCrowMan for the video.

These are the main strategies you should be looking at. If you decide to use the Meteor Amour - Space Gun combo then the Minishark video is basically the same so I won't include one. Now this next one is mostly for fun to show that he isn't all bad, this is Yrmir again killing him on the 2nd night. Fight starts around 23.40

Congratulations you have beaten Wall of Flesh and have now unlocked Hard Mode

  • It's Hard!
