As you go through RAZED, you will pick up powerups. These can be split into two categories, useless (drifting and strafing, trophies for which were 2 of my last to unlock because they are never required for S-ranks) and game-changing (stomp, jump, boost, and grip). Each of the powerups in the second category can completely change how you will play the game, allowing not just an increase of speed but creativity with your movement.
These powerups can be upgraded too. There is an upgrade in every level, and the symbol for the upgrade (two little arrows, the top one dark and the bottom one will be coloured in) will appear on the level in the level select if you have already earned the upgrade for that level. To pick up an upgrade, you will have to pick it up AND finish the level in one go. Sometimes, a timer will display when the upgrade is picked up, in which case you will also have to finish the level within that time. Picking up 3 upgrades for the same powerup makes your use of that powerup more efficient, allowing you to do it more often/longer/more liberally. Because of this, we aren't going to worry about getting S-ranks, or even A-ranks, until we have picked up every upgrade we can get. This is not necessary, and in fact, I got more than one S-rank without fully upgraded shoes, but this guide is made to make it as easy as possible.
Once you've beaten a level, you can use the ghosts of other players to give input on how you could be taking shortcuts to complete levels more quickly. Occasionally I found the world record ghosts simply too quick to even keep track of. If this is the case for you, feel free to message me and add me as a friend, and you can follow my ghosts which might be a bit easier to follow, or at least give a simpler route.
It is worth noting that if you do a short boost, and then jump whilst in your boost, and then change directions left and right rapidly, you will gain speed rapidly. I will refer to this technique as 'snaking', it will be necessary to S-rank some levels and so you may as well begin to practice the technique as soon as you have enough upgrades to use boost and jump and stay airborne for a little while without dying. Overuse of this technique can cause you to lose your ability to steer, so be careful as you do it.
With that in mind, let's jump into it!
