2. General Hints & Tips
To start you off on general tips, there is, fortunately, no large influx of problems pertaining to lag, trophies not popping, freezing, etc. Another thing to know is that if you have other unplayed MGS games and care about the story, Peace Walker takes place chronologically after Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, and ends directly before the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. If you’ve already done Ground Zeroes, playing through its main mission after finishing this game will cause everything to make a lot more sense.
For those who’ve played Metal Gear Solid 2/3 on the PS2 or PS3, the controls are slightly different for Peace Walker, but they’re fairly easy to get used to if you’ve already adjusted to those games’ controls.
Main Ops are what your first focus should be. It’d be nice if you got S Ranks along the way, but you can always come back to one with better equipment and skill to make it easier for you. The Main Ops pages are only in detail of how to get an S Rank on a mission, so if you want to minimize spoilers it’s in your best interest to do a Main Op first before looking at its corresponding page. One final note is that cutscenes do count towards your total mission time, which is a continuing “problem” in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, so it’s best if you just go through each Main Ops mission once normally just to know the story, and then skip cutscenes immediately when going for S Ranks.
The Extra Ops or anything outside of the Main Ops don’t really have any spoilers. You can do these whenever you unlock them; there's a certain order to unlocking Extra Ops, which after the main story becomes a huge web of craziness, but this web has been dissolved into a manageable path for you to follow to get the best equipment as fast as possible.
With these things in mind, it’s time to start up the game and begin the prologue.
